The Scrap’s Best 2019 Moment: Kofi Kingston wins WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35

Read Time:1 Minute, 44 Second

Kofi Kingston is the absolute embodiment of hard work paying off. Staying the course in good faith, and believing in one’s self and abilities.

Not only did Kofi realize a dream when he became WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35, he made the entire wrestling community feel good in the process.

Everybody was rooting for Kingston. To be quite honest, everyone who watches professional wrestling understands Kingston’s talent. Superior mic skills, an array of aerial assaults, and the ability to sell have always made Kofi the total package. However, Kingston was never able to get the “push” he deserved from the higher-ups.

At Wrestlemania 35, Kingston put on an instant classic match against Daniel Bryan. The match lasted over 20 minutes and was full of false finishes, OMG moments, and a huge roar of the crowd at the top of their lungs. Finally, Kofi was able to capture the WWE Championship.

The event was hands down the greatest moment of 2019 for several reasons. For starters, it marked Kingston’s first-ever WWE championship. A feat that took more than 10 years for Kofi to finally complete. Additionally, Bryan’s heel character was hot with the crowd as he continuously waved his eco-friendly title in their faces.

Once Kingston won the belt, the crowd blew the roof off of the building. And, The New Day celebrated with Kofi as he ditched the eco-friendly title, which got under the skin of the majority of fans.

Not only did Kingston make himself and the crowd proud, but he also awoke the African-American demographic of wrestling fans. A group of people who always pulled for Kingston to become a world champion in the organization, but felt it would never happen.

With all of those factors considered, nothing felt better than seeing an emotional Kofi Kingston finally recognized for over a decade’s body of work. Hands down, the euphoric energy of that moment will be forever captured and commemorated as the best moment of 2019.

Congratulations to Kofi Kingston and WWE on winning the award!
