3, 2, 1: A week full of opportunities & bright prospects

Read Time:4 Minute, 11 Second

With everything starting to open up around the world, MMA has been able to thrive once again. Especially regional MMA. Nowadays, there are so many options for fight fans to watch around the world thanks to UFC Fight Pass and various other streaming platforms.

This week alone, people can tune into BFC 67, Triller Verz: Wilson vs. Hunter, SFT 28, XFC 45, LUX 15, Combate Global, XFC YoungGuns 3, Titan FC 71, CES 63, VFC 85, Gamebred Fighting Championship 2, 247 FC, AMMO Fight League 8, Nemesis Fighting Alliance 6, XFN 37, and UFC 265. With options, comes questions; so The Scrap decided to put together a new column — a one stop shop titled ‘3, 2, 1.’

Most weeks we will feature three fights to watch, two fighters to keep an eye on, and one regional card you can’t miss.

3 FIGHTS TO WATCH

Richie Lewis vs. Ernesto Rodriguez

It’s not often you get two young, undefeated prospects squaring off this early in their careers. The Titan FC card this Friday has a banger of a matchup between NCAA D1 wrestler, Richie Lewis and the 23-year-old Xtreme Couture prospect, Ernesto Rodriguez.

This fight has potential to steal the show as Goat Shed Academy’s Lewis looks to stay perfect come fight night. This is a major test for the 27-year-old though, as Rodriguez is riding a 6-fight win streak. Make sure you tune into Titan FC 71 on UFC Fight Pass this Friday night.

Vicente Luque vs. Michael Chiesa

This is a true title eliminator fight. Luque is currently ranked #6 in the UFC’s welterweight division, and Chiesa is ranked #5. A win would likely put either fighter just one more win away from a title fight. The welterweight rankings are a steep climb, and a slip up would be costly.

Chiesa has a unique ability to swarm and overwhelm his opponents with his pressure and grappling. He usually has a clear advantage there, but Luque should be up to the task. A true matchup between two of the best in the world, and especially at welterweight.

Rafael Fiziev vs. Bobby Green

This might be a fight of the night contender. Both fighters have stuck out, in a crowded lightweight division. Stylistically, these fighters are typically willing to stand and trade strikes with their opponent. If this holds true, fans would be in for a treat. This fight takes place just outside the lightweight rankings, but the winner here will have a chance to jump into the top 15 next.

Green gained popularity in the last year because his ability to trash talk and showboat during fights, and fight on a consistent basis. Coming off a loss in his last fight, he faces another tough matchup in Fiziev. Many know that Fiziev is a coach at the acclaimed Tiger Muay Thai. He delivers a striking masterclass every time he fights, and Green will be a more than willing opponent.

2 FIGHTERS TO WATCH

Taylor Cahill

Former University of Buffalo wrestler, Taylor Cahill makes his return to 247 FC this Saturday night in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The D1 wrestler turned MMA fighter will fight again at catchweight (165 pounds) against Brandin Harrington on 247 FC: Brawl in the Burgh 8. Though he went to decision his first time out, the cage time proved to benefit Cahill who’s starting to form a well-rounded skillset under Danillo Villefort at Indio Dojo.

Word on the street is the Cahill brothers will all eventually fight in MMA at some point, as Tanner Cahill awaits his debut. The sport has a new brother duo to follow and their careers are just getting started. Make sure you tune in to 247 FC 8, live on PPV.

Devon Dixon

Florida’s Devon Dixon makes his second appearance this year for Titan FC 71. This time out he faces Brandon Lopez at what will be an epic welterweight clash. If you’re looking for someone who likes to finish fights, look no further than Dixon. His resume speaks for itself.

Dixon comes into this fight with an 8-fight win streak. As a pro, he has 3 first-round submission. Currently 5th ranked of 11 active Caribbean Pro Welterweights, Devon looks to continue his dominance this Friday night on UFC Fight Pass.

1 REGIONAL CARD TO WATCH

LUX 15

The LUX Fight League is truly one of the best MMA promotions on UFC Fight Pass. From exciting fights to quality production, LUX has it all. Including the bright prospects of the future. This week, they bring LUX 15 to UFC Fight Pass. In the main event, Tania Torres looks to capture strawweight gold as she faces Saray Orozco in the main event.

In the co-main event, lightweights throw down as Erik Silva takes on Daniel Vega. The card also features Mexican standouts Antonio Rodriguez and Francesco Patron Manzo, and Argentina’s Mauricio Nievas. Don’t you dare miss the action; it all goes down Friday at 12am ET on UFC Fight Pass.
