Read Time:8 Minute, 13 Second

The Scrap recently announced the return of The Ultimate Writer.

TUW is a competition for The Scrap’s Content Writers and features 16 of the best MMA and pro wrestling writers around the world in a competition of article views. The first round of the new season began August 1st and the winners will be determined weekly when highest article views go head-to-head to determine The Ultimate Writer.

Season 3 of TUW will feature Newbies vs. Vets.

The Scrap’s new writers will go head-to-head alongside their teams to challenge the site’s veteran writers to see who will be crowned the third ever Ultimate Writer. And of course, which team gets bragging rights. The first round matchups feature pivotal head-to-head wars that could see many underdogs rise to the occasion. All 16 writers are competing for a prize that will be revealed with the season’s official bracket in August.

Leif Payne – UK (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Leif Payne is a passionate boxing writer who enjoys to express his opinion about everything that happens in the squared circle. He joins The Scrap as the first writer to solely write boxing content. Could he be the first boxing writer to win TUW?

Dreux Stamford – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 0-2

Although he hasn’t been actively writing for The Scrap as of late, Dreux is officially back and ready to win The Ultimate Writer. Though his first time out on TUW didn’t go his way, things are much different now. People may not know this, but Dreux is one of the OG writers for the site since it’s opening, so we’re excited to have him back. Will he get his first TUW win? We’ll have to find out…

Mike Straus – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Mike Straus has been a fan of combat sports for nearly 30 years. He has been covering MMA professionally for just over five years. In the past, he has created content for LowkickMMA, MyMMANews, Cageside Press, and BJPENN.com. Currently, he is a contributor for FanSided MMA, MMASucka, and now The Scrap, where he specializes in MMA odds. Though Mike its a newbie to The Scrap, he’s not knew to the MMA space and has all the tools to win The Ultimate Writer his first time out.

Lee Brown – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 2-6, Former TUW Coach

Brown had a rough stint in Season 1 and started to show promise in Season 2. You know what they say… third time is a charm. So he could very well be a problem this season. Being two seasons deep and a former TUW Coach, Lee knows how the competition works and if he’s strategic, he can lead himself to victory this time out.

Kevin Varghese – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Kevin is a new Content Creator for The Scrap, who puts a sui generis twist in his articles. His journalistic passions includes both combat sports and pro wrestling. Kevin played collegiate baseball briefly, and now rolls on the mats in his free time. He‘a got a B.S. in Accounting & Finance, but found his true passion in the communications, marketing, and PR sector. What we like about Kevin is his enthusiasm and creativity, so although he’s new to the site and TUW, he’s not new to the writing side of things. If you’re looking for a potential dark horse, Kevin is one of few this season.

Brandon Sibcy – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 6-2

Sibcy did very well in Season 1 and Season 2. Brandon hasn’t been writing as much as of late, but OG writers on The Scrap always have aa spot on the roster. We truly believe he has the potential to have a successful comeback story on The Ultimate Writer, and maybe even win it all. Only time will tell…

Doug Murray – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Doug is a mixed martial arts reporter/freelance writer that covers the sport in a variety of capacities. During his time covering MMA, he has expanded his role into other sports like boxing, golf, and the NFL. His focus remains firmly on MMA and all combat sports as breaking news stories continue to emerge and engulf the news cycle. Murray joins The Scrap as a new Content Writer who could do very well in this competition.

Juan Reneo – Spain (Veteran)

TUW Record: 2-2

Reneo has been holding down the Pro Wrestling wing for the last year for so. This season, he looks to finally win it. Ever since Season 2, he has been a driving force for The Scrap, claiming the Pro Wrestling Writer of the Year Award. You’ll find him producing content on WWE, AEW, NJPW, and promotions out in Spain. Can he finally win it all and keep his recent momentum? Make sure you tune in to find out.

Jake Foley – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Jake join The Scrap as a newbie combat sports fanatic that has dedicated his life to telling every single fighter’s story. After being attacked by homeless people in a bizarre situation, Jake started training MMA to defend himself. Being a fan of the sport, he became addicted when he started training 4 years ago. With 3 years of experience writing, his work has been featured on FanSided, Combat Press, Overtime Heroics, and more.

Katie Vega – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 3-1, TUW Season 2 Winner

Katie had the Cinderella story last year, coming back to win it all after once being eliminated on Season 2. Not only that, she went from being a MMA troll on Twitter known as “The MMA Bitch” to showing the world who she really was. Vega is proof that you’re never out of the game until the very end, and that a newbie could actually win it all. Now the #1 ranked writer on the Vets, will the pressure get to Vega? Or can she pull off another win and become the first 2x TUW Champion? Make sure you tune in, because the former Darkhorse it now the one to beat.

Josh Diaz – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Josh Diaz is a graduate from the University of Puerto Rico and a MMA Writer for The Scrap. From Ponce, Diaz grew up watching the Island’s Boxing greats on PPV. Now a loyal MMA fan, Diaz hopes to give a spotlight to the regional fighters hungry for their opportunity. Josh isn’t new to The Scrap, but he’s new to TUW. Can the most experienced of the newbies take home the gold? You’ll have to tune in and see.

Austin Luff – Canada (Veteran)

TUW Record: 3-5

Luff was expected to win or be in the finale in Season 1, and in Season 2 he struggled to put out content that readers wanted. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back this season as one of few writers to compete on every season of The Ultimate Writer. Luff may have plenty to make up from past seasons, but let it be known- he’s still a problem. Austin is one of very few who have reached over 1,000 views on an article at The Scrap. If he can tap into what he was doing in the past, he could have a smooth path to TUW Championship.

Dylan Fritts – USA (Newbies)

Dylan “Chick” Fritts is a lover of wrestling and romanticism. He lives in Tennessee, where he is studying philosophy and writing. He joins The Scrap was a new writer, contributing to the much needed growth of pro wrestling content. Can he be the first wrestling writer to win The Ultimate Writer?

Connor Rogowsky – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 6-2, TUW Season 1 & 2 Runner-up, Former TUW Coach

If there’s one person who is hungry to win this competition, it’s Rags. After being a Coach on Season 1 and coming short in the finale, he was also beat by the underdog in Season 2. Coming up short twice sucks, but if anyone can bounce back and win it all, it’s him. With one of the best records on TUW and the most experience amongst the group it’ll be interesting to see what he does as the #2 ranked seed for the second time.

Ryan Truland – USA (Newbie)

TUW Record: 0-0

Ryan Truland is an MMA writer who conducts interviews with athletes, provides creative pieces, and whatever else is needed to keep readers up to date on the latest and greatest MMA news. Though he’s new to The Scrap and is a short notice replacement in The Ultimate Writer, he has a experience working for a variety of other news sources. We expect him to fit right in and come in with a bang!

Cole Henry – USA (Veteran)

TUW Record: 0-0

It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard of Cole Henry. After over a year, he returns to The Scrap to join the veteran team. We’re excited to finally have him back. Not only does he produce creative content, lately his articles have been going viral and likely have the most views out of any articles on The Scrap. Can he come back and win The Ultimate Writer win his rookie season?
