King of the Cage: Showtime II Results & Recap

King of the Cage: ShowTime II took place on September 21 at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in New York State. The show was a mix of everything from quick finishes to a split draw main event.  

Fight #1 Amateur Lightweight Bout 

Alex “The Reaper” Watson (1-5-0) vs. Adrian “The Monkey King” Guadalupe (0-0-0)

This was a quick 12-second match. Watson suffered an unintentional groin kick at the beginning of the first round and couldn’t continue. The fight was declared a no contest.

Fight #2 Pro Heavyweight Bout 

Tim Cronk (0-0-0) vs. Ed “The Alchemist” Sponybarger (0-1-0)

Another quick one, this match lasted 20 seconds. The bout ended in the knockout of the night. “The Alchemist” took home the win coming out of the gate with heavy punches.

Fight #3 Amateur Lightweight Bout 

Pat Carrasquillo (3-2-0) vs. Jarred “The Sherriff” Dumond (1-2-0)

Dumond from Niagara Top Team/Para Bellum took on WNY MMA fighter, Carrasquillo. The athletes were closely matched in their stand up. Dumond scored a takedown towards the end of round one and remained on top the rest of the round.

In round two, Carrasquillo got in some good punches causing Dummond’s nose to bleed. Dummond secured another take down and took Carrasquillo’s back. “The Sherriff” scored a rear naked choke at 2:23 in round 2.

Fight #4 Pro Bantamweight Bout

Drako “The Great Drakolini” Rodriguez (5-1-0) vs. Fard “The Messenger” Muhammad (6-13-1)

Fard started the match with a low blow to Rodriguez. “The Great Drakolini” responded with numerous takedowns and ground-and-pound. Fard’s eye started to swell. Rodriguez had a choke in the last ten seconds, but was unsuccessful with the submission.

In round two Rodriguez got stuck in a guillotine, but managed to squeeze out. Drako scored another take down and advanced to mount position. He took Fard’s back and ended the round on top. Fard’s eye continued to swell.

At the beginning of round three, Fard’s corners told him to, “bite down on your mouth guard and bang”. There was a stand up battle of punches. Drako scored the takedown and got into half guard. Fard got to his feet and Drako called him out to the middle of the octagon. Fard answered back with punches. Drako obtained another takedown and ended the contest in mount.

The result was a 30-26 unanimous decision for Drako.

Fight #5 Amateur Lightweight Bout

Corey “Gentleman” Butts (4-2-0) vs. “Captain” Morgan Cavanagh (7-5-0)

This bout went down to the ground fast with Captain Morgan ending in mount position. Butts brought it to stand up and won the fight by guillotine choke at 2:21 in round one.

Fight #6 Pro Lightweight Bout

Jason “The Monster” Lawrence (1-1-0) vs. Keith Forant (3-0-0)

The match began with an exchange of punches and kicks. Forant from Buffalo United Martial Arts got Lawrence against the fence. Forant threw some knees, managed the take down and landed on top. He went to side control and took Lawrence’s back. Forant hammered down some ground and pound.

The match was called by referee Steve Ward at 3:35 of round one due to TKO/strikes by Forant.

Fight #7 Pro Lightweight Bout – Co-Main Event

Anthony “The Genius” Romero (5-0-0) vs. Troy Wittman (6-2-0)

The first round started out with a great stand up battle between the two opponents. Romero scored the takedown with Wittman quickly returning to his feet. “The Genius” took the back of Wittman and got another takedown. Wittman stood up, fired some knees and held Romero against the fence. The Niagara Top Team/Para Bellum MMA fighter turned it around scoring another take down. He showed off his wrestling skills holding Wittman down. Punches were exchanged on the ground and Romero brought down some heavy shots as the round finished.

Round two began with another exchange of punches and kicks. Romero went for a flying knee, but missed. He took Wittman down again, but the Virginia fighter returned to his feet quickly. Romero went for a choke, but was unsuccessful. He held Wittman against the fence, took him down and ended up on top in half guard. Wittman went for a choke and it looked like Romero was in trouble. Romero escaped and with the crowd cheering, took Wittman’s back. The Canadian was attempting a rear naked choke on Wittman, but the bell rang ending the round.

In round three, the stand-up continued. Romero scored another take down and showed off his wrestling skills with Wittman defending from the bottom. Wittman threw some elbows, but could not get to his feet. Romero threw some heavy shots at the end of the round. All three judges called a 30-27 unanimous decision in favor of “The Genius”. This was Romero’s last contract fight with the KOTC organization.

He gave a warm-hearted send off to the crowd during his post-fight interview with the “Voice of Victory” Dean Stone.

Fight #8 Pro Lightweight Bout – Main Event

Sean ”Superfly” Felton Jr. (5-2-0) vs. Piankhi “The Nappy Ninja” Zimmerman (5-3-0)

Round one began with an exchange of kicks. Piankhi scored a jumping guard guillotine. Felton held “The Nappy Ninja” against the fence, took him down and got into mount position. WNY MMA fighter “Superfly” was on top most of the round. The bell rang and the opponents shared a serious stare down moment.

In round two, Piankhi pushed Felton against the fence. Felton turned it around and stomped on Piankhi’s toes. Felton fed his opponent some knees to the face and took his back. Piankhi turned and took Felton’s back. He went for the rear naked and stayed on “Superfly’s” back delivering punches and elbows for the remainder of the round.

Piankhi came out kicking in the third round. He attempted a choke, but Felton turned it around. He got on top and tried passing the guard. Zimmerman threw elbows from the bottom and was trying for the triangle.

The fight went the distance with the judges declaring a 28-28 draw.
