WWE Extreme Rules Predictions

Read Time:7 Minute, 5 Second

WWE Extreme Rules takes place on July 14 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins defends their titles in a Winner Takes All Match against Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans, Kofi Kingston defends his WWE Championship against Samoa Joe, Ricochet vs AJ Styles will take place for the United States Championship, and more.

Check out our staff predictions below.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Drew Gulak (C) vs Tony Nese

I’ll be honest, I don’t watch 205 Live as much as I should, so this prediction will be a bit ill informed. However, Drew is the star of 205 right now and it would make no sense to take the belt off of him this quick. Drew is the kind of star that can go from 205 to NXT to Evolve to the Main Roster without a problem, he’s that good. Tony Nese is decent but Drew is by far the bigger star here and I think it would benefit 205 Live to give him a dominant reign as champion. Also Tony is much better at chasing titles so him chasing this a bit longer would benefit both in my opinion. They could swerve us but it doesn’t really make any sense for Drew to lose here.

Drew Gulak retains the Cruiserweight Championship.

Last Man Standing: Braun Strowman vs Bobby Lashley

I am actually quite excited for this match, if they bring Braun back to his destructive roots this could be a lot of fun. I don’t expect a five star match, but if they just take a destructive, almost over the top approach this will be a highlight. Braun should pick up this win though, for a couple reasons. He has been severely fumbled over the past few months and I think if we get the old Braun and he picks up a win in a big spot, it would set him back on the right path. Bobby also needs a win but I believe Braun needs it more because quite frankly, he is more main event material than Lashley is, and I think WWE views him that way.

Braun Strowman def. Bobby Lashley.

Aleister Black vs Cesaro

This is another match of the night contender and while it’s a shame it isn’t on a big four, this will still deliver. Cesaro was the last person that I expected to be the one to pick a fight with Aleister, but it’s a fantastic choice. I originally wanted it to be Bray but the problem with that is one of them would have to lose their first feud, and it would hurt them. With this match, Black can get his first big solo win on the main roster and no doubt Cesaro will showcase his skills. If this match is given 15-20 minutes, it has all the potential in the world. Aleister needs his win to establish himself as a singles superstar, so he should pick up the win here.

Aleister Black def. Cesaro.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship: Daniel Bryan & Rowan (C) vs The New Day vs Heavy Machinery

This is one of the harder matches to predict on the card because everybody could win this. Obviously Bryan & Rowan have been great champions, and New Day are one of the best Tag Teams in the world. However, I am going to go out on a bit of a limb with this prediction. I think Heavy Machinery will be your new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Let me explain. Recently, Heavy Machinery have gotten shine in their matches, even if they haven’t always won- they’ve always had good spots. I believe New Day and Bryan & Rowan will cancel each other out and allow Otis and Tucker to pick up the titles. The SmackDown tag division has been the same teams at the top for a long time now and I think it would be beneficial to have a fresh team win the championships.

Heavy Machinery win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

Raw Tag Team Championship: Revival (C) vs The Usos

It’s a shame that this match hasn’t gotten any build, because it has all the potential in the world. This match seems pretty cut and dry to me unfortunately. Revival haven’t had the titles long, there’s no drama, and no reason The Usos should win these championships. I wish I could sit here and speculate on the winner, but I have been given no reason to believe Revival will lose. While WWE could swerve me, which I actually wouldn’t mind, I don’t see The Revival losing the championships with no story behind it. I hope we get a proper feud between these teams down the line with real drama but for now, this is an easy one.

Revival retain the Raw Tag Team Championships.

United States Championship Match: AJ Styles vs Ricochet

Out of all the matches on this card this is my most highly anticipated one by far, who would’ve thought we would ever see this match, much less in a WWE ring. Crazy. Now this is a match that’s hard to call, because there’s arguments to be made on both sides. WWE seems really high on Ricochet and he just won the United States Championship. As for AJ, he just turned heel and re-formed The Club. I think out of the two scenarios, it makes most sense for AJ to win the title. Here’s why: This time around this stable needs a strong start and AJ winning a championship right away would certainly do that. Also I believe Ricochet is always better when he’s chasing a title as opposed to when he gets it, like we saw in NXT with the North American Championship. There’s a lot of story to work with in this scenario.

AJ Styles wins the United States Championship.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs Bayley

This a strange one, Bayley is defending her title against Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a handicap match. This could go a few different ways. Nikki could snap on Alexa and help Bayley, Nikki could win it causing Alexa to get mad, or Sasha returning to even the odds. Tentatively, I think Nikki will finally snap on Alexa Bliss, because that’s totally what will happen. Nikki gets huge pops and the pop she would get if she layed out Alexa would be huge. I would love Sasha to return and I think that is a likely scenario, but it’s not likely enough to sway my prediction.

Bayley retains her SmackDown Women’s Championship.

WWE Championship Match: Kofi Kingston (C) vs Samoa Joe

I can’t wait for this match and while the winner is certainly not obvious, there’s one outcome that is less likely. I want Samoa Joe to win the WWE Championship but I don’t want it to be at Extreme Rules. This feud could easily stretch out to SummerSlam which would be the ideal place for Joe to win the big one. Dolph told Kofi he couldn’t win without help and I would love for that to be the case here. New Day could help Kofi get the win, and then it gives Joe justification, Dolph justification, and makes a good story for Kofi. I think Kofi will retain his championship, but just for now. I feel Kofi’s reign has gotten a tad stale so I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe won the title here. It should happen on a bigger stage though.

Kofi Kingston retains his WWE Championship.

Extreme Rules Winner take all Match: Lacey Evans & Baron Corbin vs Becky Lynch (C) & Seth Rollins (C)

I don’t think it gets anymore cut and dry with this match. There is no way Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans will be the top championships on the top show in WWE. I think most of us are over this story and this needs to be the conclusion. It is a shame that the main event is the easiest match to predict, but this is the case here. Seth and Becky will beat up Lacey and Baron for 20 minutes in a fun Extreme Rules match and retain their belts. I hope this match surprises us, but I am not optimistic.

Seth and Becky retain their championships.
