Cris Cyborg is motivated to fight ‘real’ featherweights in Bellator
Cris Cyborg makes her Bellator debut this weekend in a championship headliner against Julia Budd.
After the UFC and Cris Cyborg parted ways last year, the future of the featherweight division was unclear. But now, Cyborg no longer has to worry, she has a division ready and willing to challenge her.
Excited to be working with Scott Coker again, Cris Cyborg is feeling more motivated than ever, and truly feels she can fight forever.
“I have an amazing opportunity to work with him [Scott Coker] again, and I’m very motivated,” said Cyborg. “It’s a new era for me; new opportunities, new challenges for my career, and I’m very motivated.”
Although the nerves are still present, her experience takes lead. Cyborg has learned to contain her emotions, so she’s able to do her job come fight night. But nerves aside, she’s ready to make a statement in a new division full of hungry 145ers.
Budd is tough competition though, she has been a dominant champion for Bellator and is currently riding a 11-fight win streak. When you talk about some of the best fights in WMMA history, this is a matchup fans will be talking about for years to come.
Bellator 239 will showcase two of the best featherweights on the planet. And even with Julia’s dominant reign, Cyborg feels confident in her both her standup and ground game.
