Dustin Poirier feels UFC is edging him to face Conor McGregor upon return
Two-time undisputed title challenger, Dustin Poirier, believes the UFC is keeping him on the sidelines in preparation for welcoming Conor McGregor back to competition.
Today, Dustin Poirier engaged with fans in his common fan Q&As he often does. After failing to secure the lightweight championship at UFC 269 against Charles Oliveira, the MMA community has been playing matchmaker for the former interim champion. The opponent fans are most eager to see? Nate Diaz.
Poirier assured fans that his next opponent was up in the air, with him uncertain who would be next. One fan alluded that the UFC could perhaps be waiting for the return of Conor McGregor after suffering a serious ankle injury in the pair’s third meeting at UFC 264 last summer.
Poirier responded somewhat, agreeing that may be the motive from UFC president Dana White.
Dustin Poirier on a fourth fight with Conor McGregor
The American Top Team fighter has made his intentions clear that he wants to fight Nate Diaz next. A fight that should have occurred in 2018. Diaz has also indicated the fight he wants is Poirier, which would see the Stockton native fight out his contract and move on from the organization.
Both men want it, the fans want it, but the promotion seems to have other ideas.
One fan asked Poirier transition to the world of pro wrestling, which he greeted with a great sense of sarcasm.
With nothing concrete for Poirier as of yet, it’s a waiting game. In the meantime, if you were to play matchmaker, who would you put Poirier up against?
