Highlighting some of the best MMA trolls on social media today

Ranking The Best MMA Trolls on Social Media
In MMA today, trash-talking is definitely a constant. However, this isn’t the case with every fighter. Some do a lot of talking and others are much more quiet, humble, like Khabib Nurmagomedov or Dustin Poirier. They let their skills and work ethic speak for themselves and that’s absolutely fine. But, that won’t be the focus of this article. We are here to take a look at some of the best MMA trolls in the social media era. These fighters are constantly making social media posts on their page or to their opponents, especially on Twitter.

Nate Diaz
Diaz doesn’t always post or ‘Tweet’ but when he does, he always makes an impact. One of his most common approaches to this is getting his fans and the MMA community riled up. For example, when UFC 230 needed a main event, Diaz took to Instagram to announce the first ever “super fighters division.” He stated that the main event would be him vs Poirier for the brand new 165-pound division’s super fighter belt. This turned out to be completely false. Supposedly, there was never any talk of a 165-pound fight between him and Poirier, and there was no new belt or division. But that didn’t stop Diaz from getting the MMA community talking about it and believing him. Diaz often makes rather subtle social media posts, either taking jabs at Conor McGregor or other top contenders in UFC’s lightweight division. Sometimes Diaz even takes shots at the lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Recently, Diaz posted a photo of what looked like Nurmagomedov posed with 5 other men in a bathtub. The caption read, “Sambo?” It’s clear that Diaz really enjoys poking fun at his competitors and breaking his own ‘news’ on social media from time-to-time.

Conor McGregor
McGregor literally always has some kind of social media post taking jabs at someone. Lately, it’s been most frequent on Twitter. He tweets after every UFC event. He even tweeted after Holloway/Poirier 2. McGregor always tweets in some kind of way about UFC fighters. He typically highlights fighters in a positive way, crediting their performance, proposing a potential fight, etc. Lately, he’s made a couple posts about UFC 236’s main event, Max Holloway. He has one picture that he’s posted a couple times taunting Holloway in a way. It’s a picture of Holloway posing with somebody else. He appears to be pretty busted up, too. It almost looks like he may have two black-eyes. I think a lot of fans speculate that it was after his fight with McGregor. McGregor has quoted the picture with caption, “I miss those sunglasses.” It’s evident that McGregor likes to stick his nose into pretty much every fight that happens in the UFC. Also, he gets fun out of taunting Max Holloway on social media…maybe we will see these two guys rematch somewhere down the line. Who knows!

Tony Ferguson
Ferguson tweets pretty frequently and says hilarious things. It’s just something about his approach to it. He has all these nicknames for his opponents that he commonly uses in posts. You can find him tweeting at McGregor, Khabib or Ali pretty much once a week at least. He approaches competition and life itself with this certain kind of philosophy and intensity that is very interesting. Ferguson is especially unique in the way he tends to word things. It’s great stuff. Most of the stuff I read of his, I laugh out loud at. For example, last week, Ferguson said on Twitter, “Can’t wait to snap you down to your knees. @TeamKhabib I’ve got a special necktie picked out just for you.” This jab was definitely meant to get Khabib’s attention and try baiting that fight. Tony just has a really funny way of doing it. In another example, Ferguson tweeted something which is similar to most of his weekly posts. He usually takes jabs and alludes to certain concepts in his tweets, without directly addressing anything specific. He said, “Champ Shit Only” Have an Incredibly Phenomenal day! Remember to Smile & Share a Laugh my Crew. Stay Hardcore & try not to piss anyone off today unnnnnnnless it’s Mcnuggets or Team Fathead. Go for it, That is all -Champ -XTA- Hometeam.” In this post, he was able to bless his fans and tell them not to piss anyone off, unless its “Mcnuggets or Team Fathead.” Alluding to Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. He’s pretty much insulting his opponents while blessing all his fans and claiming ‘Champ Shit Only.” Top of the line stuff, really. It’s pure genius. Ferguson is extremely strategic with his way of promoting himself and his fights on social media. And he may not even realize it. Salute to Tony Ferguson, man. Hopefully we will get to see him back in the Octagon sooner, rather than later!
