Q&A: Featherweight Prospect Angel Alvarez
Angel Alvarez is a currently undefeated with a 5-0 record. He’s coming off a big win a few weeks ago in the main event of Combate Global: Mexico vs. USA. He impressed with a second-round TKO, and remains flawless in his career.

Q. First of all how did you get into MMA?
A. I started training a little bit of boxing as well as mixed martial arts in Cuba for about two months. Then when I immigrated to the United States, I wanted to fulfill one of my dreams which is to be a world champion in MMA.
Q. Do you have any background in other martial arts or sports in general?
A. I have a background In Judo, Sambo, and Soccer.
Q. You only had two amateur fights before turning pro. What lead you to the decision on transitioning to a pro at the time?
A. What made me transition at the time is that many athletes did not want to fight with me, I had been rejected as an opponent four times so I decided to make the switch to pro.
Q. At what point did you realize MMA is what you’re gonna fully pursue?
A. I realized that I was going to fully pursue MMA when I immigrated to the United States and started training.
Q. Is MMA your full-time career? If so what did you do before MMA?
A. Yes, MMA is my full-time career. Prior to that, I worked for Amazon Flex, UberEats, and DoorDash. I also worked as a mold remediation technician and did personal training as well.
Q. From when you started to where you are now in your career what changes have you seen in yourself as a martial artist?
A. I have become more perseverant in all aspects and life has confirmed to me that Godβs timing is perfect.
Q. What has been the highest and lowest point in your career so far?
A. The lowest point in my career so far was when my opponent dropped out of the fight three days before my fight was scheduled. The highest point in my career so far is each victory.
Q. Talk about your latest big win. How did you feel the fight went and what are you expecting next?
A. I felt blessed for my last victory and extremely prepared for the fight. I expect to continue giving 100 percent dedication, focus, and sacrifice in each and every training to perfect my craft.
Q. Where are you training and who are some of your main sparring partners?
A. I am training at Sanford MMA. My main training partners are Gilbert Burns, Kevin Lee, Sean Soriano, Richie Lewis, and Landry Ward.
Q. Talk about where you’re from? Where you grew up? And where you’re living now?
A. I am from La Havana, Cuba. I grew up in La Havana and I currently live in Miami.
Q. For the fans that’s never watched you before what would you tell them to expect from you when you’re stepping inside the cage?
A. For the fans that have never seen me fight, they can expect to see one of the most impressive athletes that they have ever seen.
Q. Where do you wanna be in three years from now in your career?
A. I hope to continue to be with God’s help, undefeated; and to have a world champion title.
Q. If you never got into MMA what would you be doing today?
A. If I never got into MMA, I would be looking for the opportunity to represent the United States in Judo.
Q. Why do you fight and who do you fight for?
A. I fight because I enjoy it and I fight so that my son and my mother can be by my side in the United States, along with my wife and my stepson.
