Robert Whittaker out of UFC 248 bout with Jared Cannonier; who should replace him?
UFC 248 takes place on March 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately, it has just lost a major fight.
For what is being cited as “personal reasons” the former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has pulled out of the event. Whittaker was scheduled to fight No. 4 ranked Jared Cannonier. Whittaker is coming off a title loss to Isreal Adesanya which happened in October 2019 at UFC 243 in Melbourne, Australia.
The UFC 248 card has yet to have its main event set but as of right now, strawweight champion Weili Zhang will look to defend her crown in the co-main event against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
This leaves MMA fans wondering, who should take Whittaker’s spot against Cannonier? When it comes to the middleweight division, there is one clear answer to this question. And that’s Cannonier vs. Darren Till.
If you want to look at the UFC’s rankings, it makes all the sense in the world. Cannonier is ranked No. 4 in the division, Till is ranked No. 5. Till is also coming off of a win at UFC 244 against Kelvin Gastellum.
Both men are coming off of a win, and it is an attractive fight for Till. It gives him an opportunity to climb the rankings and gives Cannonier a very tough opponent.
Time will tell how the UFC will handle this fight, but we would love to see Till slot in for Robert Whittaker against Cannonier. Perhaps even in London.
