VIDEO: Jonathan Martinez ‘couldn’t even sleep’ following controversal UFC 247 loss
UFC bantamweight Jonathan Martinez revealed that his controversial loss to Andre Ewell at UFC 247 had a major impact on him after the fight.
“Honestly, I couldn’t even sleep, I would wake up in the middle the night,” Martinez told The Scrap. “I felt like I did good (in the fight) you know? I wasn’t even hurt or nothing you know? Two days later I went back to the gym and stuff I felt good. But yeah it kind of hurt me because I lost. People say ‘you didn’t lose, you won’ but still it’s my record. So I just got to go out there and get another win.”
Martinez (11-3) is scheduled to face Frankie Saenz at UFC Fight Night on August 1. The Factory X product mentioned it took him over a month to get over his latest setback. The ‘Dragon’ has never lost back-to-back fights in his career and doesn’t see that outcome occurring on August 1.
“He’s a good wrestler he likes to bring it,” Martinez said. “So I think it’d be fun you know because I like to bring it too. So wherever it goes, I feel really comfortable.”
Martinez added. “I’m not letting this fight go to a decision (again). You know I got to get a finish, first-round, second-round finish. Honestly, I feel good about everything. I’m really explosive and stuff like that. So whenever it goes, I feel great.”
UFC Fight Night takes place on August 1. Former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm faces rising contender Irene Aldana in the main event. Subscribe to The Scrap Youtube channel here for more fighter video interviews.
