What’s next for Brian Cage after claiming the IMPACT Championship?
Last month at IMPACT Rebellion, Brian Cage claimed his first IMPACT Championship after dethroning Johnny Impact. While Cage seemingly heals up from an injury sustained in that match, what’s next for the champion?
Cage most likely has three options for his first feud as champion.
Johnny Impact
I think this is probably the least most interesting first feud for Cage, but Johnny Impact will want that championship back. Johnny and Cage have a lot of chemistry in the ring. Johnny play’s a perfect cowardly heel and Cage’s no-nonsense dominating character is the perfect opponent for that. I don’t think Impact will get an immediate re-match, but it is extremely possible.
I would love to see a change in character for Johnny after losing his title, but him and Cage having another short program and would be a decent choice for his first challenger.
Killer Kross
This choice comes a little out of nowhere, but I would love to see Killer Kross challenge for the championship. Kross is an extremely underrated wrestler and is very athletic for a big man, like Brian Cage. Kross is one of the best characters on the roster and while Cage’s character is basically just a ‘beast,’ he plays it very well. Killer Kross not winning the championship would not hurt him, and would be a great first win for Cage. They can book the match so that Kross looks strong and comes close, but ultimately can’t get the job done.
No matter how they book the rivalry or the match, it would be a lot of fun, would be good for Kross, and would be a strong victory for the Impact Champion.
Michael Elgin
This is the most likely option in the company right now to challenge for the championship next. After Cage won the title, Elgin confronted him and solidified himself as the first challenger. Looking at the IMPACT roster, I think this is their best option. Elgin kind of went MIA for a while and I think people have forgotten how good of a wrestler he is. After seeing Cage feud with a smaller guy in Johnny Impact, a heavyweight vs heavyweight feud is the way to go. Elgin does not need to win the championship yet and it would be an extremely solid first win for Brian Cage in his championship run. They are two big guys, but extremely athletic wrestlers who can do incredible things for their size.
IMPACT has been putting on extremely solid matches as of late and this would be no exception. It would be an extremely fun feud and has the potential to be an insane match.
