Don’t Sleep on Marvin Vettori vs. Brendan Allen

The UFC returns to New Orleans, Louisiana, this Saturday, July 19, with a stacked UFC 318 card. In the main event, BMF champion Max Holloway faces Dustin Poirier in a high-stakes battle. Holloway is a former featherweight king, while Poirier is the home crowd favorite who makes the walk one last time.

But don’t overlook the prelims. A heated middleweight grudge match between Marvin Vettori and Brendan Allen is set to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

The Beef is Real at Middleweight

The Italian face of MMA, Marvin Vettori (19-7-1), returns to the cage this Saturday as he looks to settle his differences with Louisiana’s Brendan Allen (24-7). The two previously clashed in a heated altercation at a PFL event last August, surrounded by fans and friends. Now, they meet in the featured prelim at UFC 318.

Vettori, 31, hopes to get back in the win column as he takes on the well-rounded hometown favorite. He enters this highly anticipated matchup on a two-fight skid. In his last appearance against Roman Dolidze in March, Vettori looked rusty and dropped a unanimous decision after five rounds. Known for his durability and grit, Vettori has earned three performance bonuses during his UFC tenure. To get past Allen, he’ll need to deliver one of his best performances yet. Fighting under the UFC banner since 2016, the Italian has compiled a 9-6-1 record inside the Octagon.

Allen, 29, is also looking to rebound after back-to-back losses. He fell short against Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez, putting a dent in his rise up the middleweight ranks. Before that, Allen was riding an impressive seven-fight win streak, with five of those victories coming by rear-naked choke. He also picked up three Performance of the Night bonuses during that stretch. Allen brings a well-rounded skill set to the cage, combining high-level jiu-jitsu with effective striking. Over six years with the promotion, he has put together a 12-4 record.

This middleweight clash is a treat for fans tuning into UFC 318. With both fighters ranked and tensions running high, this three-round battle promises fireworks.
