STARDOM: Their Growth & Brutal Schedule
There’s no doubt that STARDOM hosts some of the best women’s wrestling in the world, boasting a roster of incredibly talented athletes. While STARDOM is experiencing a surge in business metrics with more fans tuning in than ever before, there’s a significant change that they need to consider… Their grueling schedule.
Injuries happen in contact sports, and even in the scripted world of wrestling, injuries are unpredictable. 2024 has witnessed a wave of injuries within STARDOM, and a substantial portion of this can be attributed to their current schedule. The existing schedule for their shows doesn’t afford their talent sufficient time for recovery, especially when they embark on extensive tours or participate in demanding tournaments like the 5Star Grand Prix.
A more manageable schedule could yield several advantages for STARDOM. Firstly, it would allow their wrestlers the necessary time to recuperate from prolonged tours and tournaments, reducing the risk of injuries that have plagued them this year. It would also open up opportunities for their wrestlers to compete in the United States, creating valuable exposure and attracting new fans to their ever-expanding product.
However, it’s important to acknowledge the potential economic impact of such a change. Promotions are understandably averse to financial losses, and this factor alone could make altering STARDOM’s schedule a challenging proposition.
At the end of the day, while there are numerous benefits to adopting a lighter schedule for their wrestlers, the economic considerations may make it an unlikely prospect. Especially when considering STARDOM’s current position as the second-largest promotion in Japan, only trailing behind NJPW in terms of attendance numbers.
