Card Predictions for Contender Series Week 6:
Mayton Perea vs. Zevan Hunt
Mayton Perea, 26, represents Ecuador and has finished all eight of his professional victories, including seven in the first round. He was scheduled to compete in July, but the bout was canceled after he received an opportunity to appear on Contender Series.
One concern is that Perea missed weight for his most recent fight. However, at 6-foot-3, he will hold a slight height advantage over Hunt.
Zevan Hunt, 27, trains out of Oklahoma and remains undefeated as a professional. He also has extensive amateur experience, with only one loss, and has won a regional championship. Hunt has finished all but one of his professional victories, including five in the first round.
Both men have recorded knockouts and submissions, making this an intriguing matchup between two well-rounded finishers. Hunt may be the slight favorite because of his undefeated record and experience, but Perea’s early finishing ability makes him the more dangerous pick.
Prediction: Mayton Perea via KO/TKO
Igor Cavalcanti vs. Oscar Ravello
Igor Cavalcanti, 28, is a Brazilian finisher who has stopped every professional victory in the first round. He returns to Contender Series after suffering the first loss of his career on Season 8.
Cavalcanti has competed at both welterweight and middleweight and also has experience in boxing and kickboxing. Since his previous Contender Series appearance, he has gone 4-1, earning another opportunity to compete for a UFC contract.
Oscar Ravello, 27, represents Peru and has also fought at welterweight and middleweight, winning regional championships in both divisions. The two were originally scheduled to compete on Week 8 before the matchup was moved to this week.
Both fighters are comfortable competing across multiple weight classes, but Cavalcanti holds the clear advantage. His first-round finishing ability, stronger level of competition and recent 4-1 run make him the heavy favorite to get his hand raised.
Prediction: Igor Cavalcanti via KO/TKO
Akbar Abdullaev vs. Ednilson Santos
Akbar Abdullaev, 28, is an undefeated prospect representing Kyrgyzstan. He has finished all 13 of his professional victories, recording 12 knockouts and one submission. Nine of those finishes came in the first round, showing how dangerous he is from the opening bell.
Abdullaev has also tested himself against strong competition during his time with ONE Championship. Ednilson Santos, 34, is a Brazilian veteran stepping into the matchup on short notice, making an already difficult challenge even tougher.
Santos’ best path to victory may be surviving Abdullaev’s early pressure, forcing him to work and testing his cardio in the later rounds. If he can slow the pace and extend the fight, his experience could become more valuable.
However, Abdullaev’s undefeated record, finishing ability and experience against proven opponents make him the biggest favorite on the card for good reason.
Prediction: Akbar Abdullaev via KO/TKO
Hugo Guillon vs. Luis Hernandez
Hugo Guillon, 29, enters the matchup riding a six-fight winning streak. The French prospect has finished all but one of his professional victories, including five in the first round. At 6-foot-4, he will also have a significant size advantage after previously competing at light heavyweight.
Luis Hernandez, 30, trains out of Miami and remains undefeated as both a professional and an amateur. He has finished every professional victory, including five in the first round, making him just as dangerous early in the fight.
Neither man has faced particularly strong competition, making this a difficult matchup to predict. Both are proven finishers, but Guillon’s size and experience against larger opponents give him a slight advantage.
Prediction: Hugo Guillon via Decision
AntĂ´nio Monteiro vs. Tyshawn Williams
AntĂ´nio Monteiro, 31, returns to Contender Series after losing on Season 8. The Brazilian has not competed since June of last year, when a victory earned him another opportunity to fight for a UFC contract.
Monteiro has spent much of his career competing at lightweight and welterweight, making the move to 145 pounds a potential concern after a lengthy layoff. Williams, 30, is undefeated and trains out of Baltimore. He has more experience at featherweight, although he has also struggled to make the limit.
Tyshawn Williams is a well-rounded fighter with four KO/TKO victories, including three in the first round. That finishing ability could prove important if either fighter struggles to maintain his pace after the weight cut.
Both fighters enter with questions surrounding the featherweight limit, but Williams’ undefeated record, versatility and power make him the safer pick.
