The Viking Raiders: What went wrong?

Read Time:2 Minute, 26 Second

Welcome to a new column where misused WWE Superstars will get the spotlight and ways to get them back on track are highlighted.

The Viking Raiders

The War Raiders… No… The Viking Exper… No wait, the Viking Warriors… No, no, no. The Viking Raiders!

I forgot who they were for a second, as did many of you I’m sure. In NXT, the former War Raiders were an up-and-coming tag team that had many abilities we haven’t seen. First of all, you had Hanson, who is now Ivar. Not only does he have insane power and strength, he is also very agile and quick. He wasn’t afraid to go from the top rope and dive onto his opponents. Most say he is apart of 305 Live!

Then you had Rowe, who is now just your buddy Erik, a hard-hitting, terrifying wrestler. The tattoos, the face paint, the pure strength and charisma made him flow perfectly with Hanson. These two ran ship at NXT TakeOver by capturing the Tag Team Championships and putting on 5-star matches constantly on the yellow and black brand. My favorite match was The War Raiders vs Ricochet and Aleister Black. That match had everything you can think of and then some. Now, with all this talent and momentum, they were primed to be great for the future.

WHAT HAPPENED?!

Well what happened was the Superstar Shake-up. You were watching Raw and then hear the War Raiders theme and you think, “who is that, it sounds so familiar?” Then when you see it’s the War Raiders, you mark out. But then you hear Mike Rome say six words that changed them forever. “Ivar and Erik, The Viking Experience.”

The name change would ruin any and all momentum they had. What hurt worse was in the following weeks, they went from that to the Viking Warriors and then finally Viking Raiders. After all the name changes and all the memes made, they would disappear from TV and do absolutely nothing. Recently, they have been shown crushing jobbers and on this past Raw, the duo defeated Hawkins and Ryder. Maybe this can lead to a push to save them and hopefully we can get the Viking Raiders vs AoP match we want.

WWE really messed up the debut of the War Raiders, all with just a simple name change. Hopefully they can get their NXT mojo back and take over the tag team division. A simple fix is the put them in big feuds such as a Heavy Machinery or the Revival.

Maybe this week’s victory can be a fresh start, but only time will tell what WWE has in store for the Vikings.
