Three Matches That Should (But Won’t) Be On WWE Evolution 2
Evolution 2 marks the long-awaited return of WWE’s all-women’s event since its 2018 debut. While there is some excitement around the comeback, both fan reactions and reported wrestler sentiment suggest the buildup has fallen short of setting the show up for success.
One major concern is its scheduling. Evolution takes place the same weekend as AEW’s All In, their biggest show of the year. To make matters worse, it’s happening next door to a Beyoncé concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which could significantly impact attendance.
Though the card is nearly finalized, a few key matches that arguably deserve a spot are noticeably missing. Let’s dive in:

Liv Morgan vs. Nikki Bella
Let’s start with the obvious. WWE had been building toward this match until Liv Morgan’s unfortunate shoulder injury derailed those plans. A clash between the two on a big stage felt inevitable. Since Liv’s absence, it’s no coincidence that Nikki’s role on WWE TV has significantly diminished.
“This would give Liv the spotlight her work over the past few years has earned, while also offering a nostalgic moment for Nikki. Despite what the internet might argue, Nikki helped pave the way for today’s stars, bridging the gap between the Divas Era and the Women’s Revolution. As the standard for women’s wrestling in WWE evolved, Nikki remained relevant while many others faded. She even main evented the original Evolution, taking on Ronda Rousey.
This could have also been set up as a tag team match, especially with reports that Brie Bella has been in talks with WWE about appearing at the event. The likely plan would have seen Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against the Bella Twins. The fact that the build began before Morgan’s injury suggests this match could still happen down the line.

Women’s United States Championship: Giulia (c) vs. Chelsea Green
It may not be the first match that comes to mind, but it’s one that makes sense. Considering the buzz around Giulia’s signing and her recent United States Championship win, it’s surprising she isn’t being featured more prominently at Evolution. Some believe WWE may be saving something bigger for Saturday Night’s Main Event XL. After a quick call-up to SmackDown and the introduction of a new title, many expected ‘The Beautiful Madness’ to have a major defense on the card. Instead, she appears to be headed for the battle royal, which feels like a missed opportunity.
One woman that is synonymous with that championship is Chelsea Green. She was the inaugural champion and her character with the gold was a highlight of SmacDown for many months. With the help of the Secret Hervice, Piper Niven and Alba Fyre, she seems desperate to regain that gold. What better place to attempt to do that than Evolution. Her work since winning the title surely was enough to earn her a prominent spot on the card.
These two women share history too. Chelsea Green was Giulia’s debut opponent in WWE, facing her last September on NXT. That alone gives Green a reason to seek a bit of revenge. She also has experience in STARDOM, Giulia’s longtime home promotion, which proves she is familiar with the hard-hitting, strong style Giulia is known for.
Evolution would have given Chelsea the chance to showcase that side of her skillset. One that is rarely seen due to her current comedic persona. With enough time on a big stage like this, the match could have delivered something special and shown fans a whole new side of Chelsea Green.

Blake Monroe vs. Anyone
Blake Monroe is making her debut at the Great American Bash since signing with WWE. It would not have been surprising to see the former Mariah May receive a big spotlight at Evolution, as the timing seemed perfect. This could have been the ideal launchpad before quickly moving her toward the NXT Women’s Championship.
She is a big enough star and a skilled wrestler to earn a spot on the card. For fans who don’t know her yet, she will immediately stand out as a major player. This could also help draw in viewers who have followed her in AEW and STARDOM. Many of those fans might not otherwise watch WWE.
In reality, her opponent doesn’t matter much, as there are several options on the NXT roster. A statement win over Fallon Henley or Jazmyn Nyx would have been ideal, putting her on the radar of their Toxic Attraction stablemate and NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne. A quick, dominant victory over Arianna Grace would also make sense. Perhaps the best match-up would be against Wren Sinclair. It could also have been an opportunity for someone from TNA to appear in a strong but ultimately losing effort.
Although these matches didn’t make the cut, Evolution still promises to be a major part of an incredibly stacked wrestling weekend.
