How WWE Can Turn Things Around for WWE Evolution 2

Read Time:6 Minute, 9 Second

The return of WWE Evolution should be a landmark celebration for women’s wrestling. But let’s be honest, the build has felt rushed and thrown together, much like many of WWE’s PLEs in 2025. While the initial announcement sparked excitement, the follow-through has been underwhelming, especially considering how stacked the women’s roster is right now.

There are no finals for the Mae Young Classic and no standout promotional push for the event. Ironically, Toni Storm, who won the last MYC, is possibly headlining AEW All In: Texas the same weekend against Mercedes Moné, a star who rose to prominence in WWE but was underutilized in a six-woman tag match on the original Evolution card alongside Bayley and Natalya.

Despite everything, it’s not too late for WWE to flip the script. If done right, Evolution 2 could be iconic. Here’s how WWE can turn it around:

Bring Back Big Names

For a PLE centered around women, nothing creates buzz faster than the return of familiar faces. WWE has a golden opportunity to create moments, and reintroduce legends who helped lay the foundation for the women’s revolution:

Likely-To-Return:

  • Paige returning would be a full-circle moment. She was a pioneer in changing how women’s wrestling was viewed and played a major role in the rise of the women’s division. The fact that she was forced to retire before the first Evolution makes her potential return all the more powerful. It would be a statement about resilience, evolution, and redemption.
  • Ronda Rousey headlined the first Evolution event, and even though the division has grown far beyond needing her, she still brings undeniable star power. With the roster now almost completely different from when she last competed, a return after the birth of her second child could set up new rivalries and give a major rub to rising talent.
  • Brie Bella could also return, considering Nikki is scheduled to compete on the card. A final run for the Bella Twins would bring excitement and nostalgia, and it would resonate with fans who watched them grow from reality stars into legitimate in-ring competitors.

Not-So-Sure Returns:

  • AJ Lee has been one of the most requested returns for nearly a decade. Fans have been begging for her to come back, and speculation hit a new high when she posted a cryptic image on her Instagram story. A comeback from AJ would shock the industry.
  • Michelle McCool, Layla, and Kelly Kelly have all publicly expressed interest in returning. They were crucial during the transitional era of women’s wrestling and deserve their moment in this next chapter.
  • Jazz has recently been spotted around the WWE circle, which could hint at something more. Her contributions to women’s wrestling are often underrated, and Evolution would be a perfect stage to celebrate her impact.
  • Gail Kim is now a free agent, no longer tied to TNA. While her relationship with WWE has been rocky in the past, anything is possible, and her inclusion would be huge.

There is a real opportunity to make WWE Evolution 2 feel monumental. So many women have helped shape the past, and just like some were part of the original card, they deserve to play a role in the future as well.

Unlock the Power of Cross-Promotion

With WWE now operating under the TKO umbrella, the possibilities are endless. Imagine crossover appearances from TNA or AAA talent. The forbidden door is slightly open. But, Evolution is the perfect place to throw it wide.

WWE has a pipeline of talent through Evolve, NXT, and WWE LFG. Not including them is a missed opportunity. Add to that the synergy with UFC. You have Kayla Harrison, the new UFC Bantamweight Champion, openly talking about wanting to wrestle. Julianna Peña is another fighter with the charisma and mic skills to stir things up in WWE.

Cross-promotion wouldn’t just make Evolution stand out, it would make it feel like a movement.

Appoint a Charismatic Host

With AEW All In and a Beyoncé concert competing for attention that weekend, WWE Evolution needs something more. A host could be the glue that holds the show together and adds mainstream appeal.

Vanessa Hudgens, a known wrestling fan, or someone culturally relevant like Sexyy Red would be a perfect choice to bring that crossover energy considering she has hosted NXT in the past. WWE could even keep it in-house… Why not have Ava, the current NXT GM, run the show? Her authority role already gives her credibility, and it could even plant seeds for future stories.

Drop a Bombshell Announcement (or Two)

Surprises matter, especially when you’re trying to win a competitive weekend. Announce the return of the Mae Young Classic. Confirm Evolution will now be an annual PLE. Rename the Battle Royal to honor Chyna and truly give the legends their flowers.

Or go even bigger. Announce a Tag Team Tournament to revive the struggling WWE Women’s Tag Team Division. Imagine it featuring teams from TNA, AAA, WWE legends like LayCool and The Bella Twins, and maybe some up-and-comers from the WWE I.D. program. It would bring stakes and shine to a division in need of rebuilding.

Make the Match Types Memorable

Evolution 2 can’t just be a repeat of the first. There needs to be spectacle. Add unique stipulations that allow more women to shine without just defaulting to another Battle Royal.

Maybe a Gauntlet Match showcasing multiple talent? A Steel Cage Match for blood feuds? Anything that gets fans talking before the first bell rings is a win. Themed matches will help distinguish this card from everything else happening that weekend.

Launch the Next Era of Superstars

What better place to debut the next generation than WWE Evolution? Since it’s already a cross-brand event, give us call-ups that feel meaningful.

Lola Vice is ready. Jaida Parker has been crushing it. Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Jordynne Grace, and Fatal Influence are all main-roster ready. Use Evolution as a launchpad for fans to understand the PLE’s importance within the WWE calendar.

Debut a New Women’s Faction

Women’s wrestling needs its own Judgment Day. Its own Bloodline. WWE has disbanded some of its only female factions recently, and the timing is perfect to build something new.

Years ago, a Shield-like women’s faction was pitched featuring Summer Rae, Paige, and Anna Bogomazova. Why not bring that energy back? Use surprise signings and unexpected alliances to form the next dominant stable.

Or think bigger. Nia Jax and Tamina could reunite. The Tonga Twins could make their debut. And if you really want to blow the roof off, weave in Naomi or Ava into the Bloodline story. Even without blood ties, Sami Zayn wasn’t either, and he made magic.

A Second Chance to Get It Right

WWE Evolution 2 may have had a rushed start, but it doesn’t have to fall flat. With the right mix of legends, crossover talent, new faces, and storyline innovation, it can be remembered as the show that changed the game—again.

WWE just needs to take the leap. The tools are there. Now it’s time to build a show that delivers on its promise: putting women’s wrestling at the forefront, with the spotlight it has long deserved.
