Jake Paul’s MVP Merges With PFL To Create New Global Combat Sports Powerhouse

Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian have officially taken their biggest step yet toward reshaping the combat sports landscape.
On Thursday, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and the Professional Fighters League (PFL) announced a landmark merger that will bring boxing, mixed martial arts, live events, athlete development, media, and global content distribution under a single banner.
Going forward, the combined company will operate under the MVP brand, with PFL eventually transitioning into MVP MMA beginning in 2027.
The move comes after the successful launch of MVP MMA earlier this year. It signals the promotion’s ambitions to become a legitimate long-term challenger in the combat sports industry.
Jake Paul, Nakisa Bidarian, and John Martin Lead New Company
The merged company will be led by MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian. Former PFL executive John Martin will serve as CEO and a member of the board.
Martin brings decades of media experience, previously serving as Chairman and CEO of Turner, where he oversaw brands including TNT, TBS, CNN, and Turner Sports.
The company is backed by founding investors 885 Capital and Knighthead Capital, giving the newly formed promotion additional financial backing as it expands across boxing and MMA.
Bidarian will continue overseeing MVP’s boxing operations while working alongside Martin to grow the combined business globally.
Jake Paul Invites Fighters From Other Promotions
Paul made it clear that the merger isn’t just about combining two companies. It’s about attracting elite talent from across combat sports.
“We started MVP to disrupt a broken model. We wanted to give fighters fair pay and a bigger, modernized stage to become global superstars. Joining forces with PFL accelerates that vision by a decade.”
Paul also confirmed that he plans to return to boxing while finally making his long-awaited MMA debut under the new MVP MMA banner.
“I look forward to putting my entire promotional muscle into our new company, returning to the boxing ring and making my MVP MMA debut. To all current MVP and PFL fighters, things just got bigger. To fighters fighting in other organizations, we are open for business when you are contractually free. The time for change is now. Welcome to MVP.”
While Paul never mentioned the UFC by name, his invitation to fighters under contract elsewhere was viewed by many as a direct challenge to the industry’s dominant promotion.
PFL Brand Will Become MVP MMA
The PFL name isn’t disappearing overnight though.
The remaining 2026 schedule will continue under the PFL banner before fully transitioning to MVP MMA in 2027. Together, the company will feature nearly 400 fighters while combining MVP’s promotional reach with PFL’s established international infrastructure.
The promotion also plans to host five premium boxing and MMA events in August as part of the new partnership.
Through PFL’s existing distribution agreements, the company now reaches fans through 34 media partners across more than 170 countries. Combined with MVP’s partnerships and growing audience, executives believe the merger creates one of the largest global distribution platforms in combat sports.
Can MVP Actually Challenge the UFC?
The merger immediately establishes MVP as arguably the clearest No. 2 player in North American combat sports. But, overtaking the UFC remains an enormous challenge.
The UFC still controls much of the world’s elite MMA talent, possesses decades of brand recognition, and maintains some of the strongest media partnerships in sports.
However, MVP believes it can compete by emphasizing higher fighter pay, modern storytelling, athlete branding, and greater opportunities outside of competition.
Paul has made no secret of his ambitions either.
Speaking following the merger announcement, he dismissed the notion that MVP simply wants to compete with the UFC.
“Wall Street Journal said that we wanna pick a fight with UFC. We don’t wanna just pick a fight, we wanna win the fight.”
Jake Paul’s MMA Debut Back on Track
The merger also revives one of combat sports’ longest-running storylines.
Paul originally signed with the PFL in 2023 with plans to compete in MMA, but never made his promotional debut before parting ways with the organization earlier this year.
Now, with PFL becoming MVP MMA, Paul will have direct control over the promotion where he plans to compete.
His eventual MMA debut is expected to become one of the promotion’s biggest attractions as MVP looks to establish itself as a serious player in the sport.
Whether the new company can truly rival the UFC remains to be seen, but Thursday’s announcement represents one of the most significant structural changes in combat sports in recent years, and perhaps the strongest attempt yet to build a true alternative on a global scale.
