Former UFC Title Challenger Anthony Smith Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges

Anthony Smith, a former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, is facing multiple felony charges. The MMA analyst turned himself in to authorities in Nebraska earlier this week.
According to officials in Sarpy County, Nebraska, Smith surrendered on July 27, 2026, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The 38-year-old has been charged with three felonies stemming from an alleged domestic incident involving his wife.
Smith faces the following charges:
- Attempted first-degree domestic assault (Class II felony)
- Terroristic threats (Class III-A felony)
- First-degree false imprisonment (Class III-A felony)
Anthony Smith’s Alleged Incident & Charges Explained
The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred on July 26 during Gretna Days in Gretna, Nebraska.
According to a statement from the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office presented during Smith’s bond hearing, Smith and his wife were involved in an altercation at a local bar. Prosecutors allege Smith threatened to kill his wife if she did not get into his vehicle and return home with him before allegedly grabbing her and forcing her into the vehicle.
Authorities further allege that during the drive, Smith’s wife exited the vehicle in an attempt to escape. Prosecutors claim Smith continued making threats and demanded that she return to the vehicle. After arriving at their home, investigators allege she exited the vehicle once again. At that point, Smith attempted multiple times to strike her with the vehicle.
According to reports, she avoided physical injury. Witnesses assisted her and the couple’s daughters in reaching safety.
Following his arrest, Smith was released after posting a $500,000 bond. As part of the conditions of his release, the court issued a strict no-contact and stay-away order prohibiting him from contacting his wife.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court again on August 17, 2026.
As with all criminal cases, Smith is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, authorities have declined to provide additional details beyond those presented during the bond hearing.
