What’s next for Cody Rhodes?
When everything indicated that Cody Rhodes was heading back to WWE, a report from Cassidy Hayes from BodySlam.net indicated that the talks between WWE and Cody had fizzled out, putting Cody Rhodes’ future in the air.
Cody Rhodes is still one of the hottest free agents in wrestling, but this report and recent news have taken away some of his bargaining power. Where will Rhodes go? Is the million dollar question right now…
A Return to AEW & ROH
Cody returning to the promotion he helped create would make sense, and would come with some new perks. As mentioned last week, Tony Khan is the owner of ROH and maybe putting Rhodes on the role of booker would interesting. ROH seems to be headed in the direction of becoming AEW’s developmental promotion and there’s been several reports of Rhodes wanting to be part of creative awhile ago. This would be the first step to that. This would also create a direct pipeline of new talent for AEW like we’ve seen on Elevation and Dark, but on a larger scale.
The biggest problem for his return would be money, and Rhodes not having a lot of bargaining power right now is against him. It all depends what both sides want.
NWA
This could an interesting option, and it would help NWA a lot. The promotion struggles to get fans’ attention but getting someone like Rhodes would energize the promotion. There are some problems to this idea though, first it’s money and second, it’s a major risk for Rhodes.
WWE
WWE still looks like the favorites to land Rhodes, but with BodySlam.net’s report this might change soon. WWE missing out on getting Rhodes and having one over AEW seems so bizarre, especially considering how competitive Vince McMahon can be at times.
Cody Rhodes has other options like doing an indies run and probably doing some GCW dates. There’s also promotion like MLW and IMPACT that could be interesting landing spots for Rhodes as well.
