In 2020, the regional women really brought the show. At LFA 95, a main event for the inaugural strawweight title took place that made history in more ways than one.
The Scrap’s Regional Submission of the Year 2020 award goes to Vanessa Demopoulos and her inverted triangle on Sam Hughes.

Honorable Mentions: Jose Perez vs. Jacob Dorman (CFFC 91), Jamie Gonzalez vs. Pat Sabatini (CFFC 91) and Craig Jones vs. Vinny Magalhães (SUG 13).
As the fighters were on the ground against the fence in the fourth round, “Lil Monster” locked in a deep reverse triangle on Hughes. “Sampage” fought hard to break free from the submission, but eventually went to sleep. Demopoulos won the technical submission victory that night along with the first-ever strawweight women’s championship title.
The victory and impressive submission ended up earning her a Contender Series bout in August, and she later defended her title at LFA 94.
