Brent Primus talks ATT Portland & Mamedov controversy pre-Bellator 268
Bellator 268 transpires from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, October 16th. The broadcast goes down on Showtime featuring both semi-final bouts in the light heavyweight grand prix, a possible lightweight title eliminator bout, and more.
I spoke with Brent Primus ahead of his Benson Henderson bout. The excerpts from our scrum chat can be found below.

In the summer, you were getting that American Top Team Portland work with Ricky Simon, Fabiano Scherner obviously. Who have you been working with this particular camp? Same cast of characters, as it were?
“Yeah, pretty much. I mean, they brought in some good wrestlers. To help me with my take-down defense and wrestling. Ricky Simon just got a fight. Me and him have been getting some good rounds in. He’s a little bit smaller than me, but he’s fast. Kind of like Benson. Really athletic, good wrestling. So, me and Ricky Simon, John Simon… A bunch of big college wrestlers I’ve been wrestling with. Camp went great, my weight’s great. I feel strong, fast, confident. I’m ready to go out there. Make a statement and smash him.”
The polarizing Islam Mamedov decision loss and what can be done to subvert future instances of judging controversy.
“The Islam fight, I rewatched it and the guy literally was defending the whole time. He had some good takedowns, but other than that he did not do one thing with them. He didn’t punch me. I didn’t have a scratch on me, he was defending the whole entire time. I think there has to be some kind of fighters union. Something where there’s retired fighters that are the judges. People that know what it takes to have somebody on top of you and not receive any damage.”
“Something has to change, man. I had so many people come up to me. People from Bellator, the staff, media. Saying that I won that fight and I got robbed. Something has to happen, man. Because these old boxing judges or whatever, they don’t know MMA, obviously. I feel one hundred percent that something has to happen, for sure.”
