Colton Boxell: ‘Anybody who thinks I’m the underdog is out of the know’
Colton Boxell tests skills with Jett Grande in a super lightweight bout at Unified MMA 45. This goes down on May 27th, and broadcasts on UFC Fight Pass.
I spoke with Boxell ahead of this redemption-minded bout in the context of Grande previously besting a training partner of his. Excerpts from our recent chat can be found below.

Colton Boxell’s thoughts on Jett Grande overall as an opponent–
“Jett’s the kind of fighter who keeps his foot on the gas and will not back down. All of his fights have shown forward pressure and nothing but forward pressure. The majority of his shots are the left-right combination, the one-two. He stays very balanced and very stable in his approach. He has explosive takedowns. I have answers for his ground game but he has smothering pressure there. I think I’ve got an answer everywhere that he goes. If you put him on the back foot, he’s likely to throw a left hook.”
“So that’s something that I’m prepared for. I think with how he is, the fact that he drills that habit, it’s unlikely that he’s going to change, but he may progress. So I know that he’s coming forward with the one-two. I know that he’s looking to wrestle and engage in the grapple. Use the smothering pressure that he has used to win all of his amateur fights.”
Colton Boxell continued, “He’s a highly touted prospect, he’s a world champion, and I know this is not an easy matchup. But I do believe I have what it takes to beat him even as the underdog. I think anybody who thinks I’m the underdog is out of the know. I think anybody who’s going to look at it like I don’t have a bone in this fight is going to have trouble when it comes time for game day. They’re going to see a whole new side of the equation.”
