It’s a grappling affair when Colton Boxell meets Mac Stroud at RITC 63
Colton Boxell will test his skills against Mac Stroud at Rumble in the Cage 63 on October 1st.
Boxell was a guest on Bowks Talking Bouts once again and several subjects were covered. Below are excerpts from the conversation…
Colton Boxell
The grappling acumen of his opponent and how this Stroud bout could look for Boxell–
“There’s the two ways, right. When two good grapplers face off against each other. It either turns into a clinic of grappling which is great. Scramble for scramble, position for position. Those are fun to watch. Obviously, if I want to bring it to a head with this guy, I need to engage him in a grappling affair. But sometimes we see too that between two good grapplers, they don’t grapple at all. Because neither can find that opening that they need to start their game.”

“Lead their opponent down the well through the Mulberry bush. So it turns into this striking affair that we see sometimes and those are fun too. I recently watched Ben Askren-Demian Maia. I thought that was a really good example of what I’m talking about. Where the grappler needs to get into that short range, close range. They need to clinch up and they need to tie up their opponents. They’re canceling each other out. So they need to engage in the striking that happens at this close and medium range.”
“Those are fun to watch. I would like to develop in that quite a bit. I don’t want to get taken down and wind up on the bottom of a lot of pressure from Mac Stroud. That’s a big thing but I know that if I do, I will need to take that momentum and change it to something that’s more favorable for me. So that’s either the sweep or the stand-up. But clinch, engage in the close range, crash, back off, throw something, back off, counter. Yeah, it should be fun.”
