Cody Rhodes Heel

Cody Rhodes: The Man Behind the Heels or the Heel Himself?

Read Time:2 Minute, 16 Second

Cody Rhodes has been at the center of some of the most shocking heel turns in recent WWE history.

From The Rock’s shocking betrayal at WrestleMania 40 in 2024, to John Cena’s controversial turn at WrestleMania 41 in 2025. And now the most recent one by Randy Orton on the road to WrestleMania 42.

With one common denominator, you have to start asking whether Cody Rhodes might actually be the real problem here.

Paul Levesque Privilege

For years, fans have debated when, or if Cody would turn heel. Many assumed a heel turn was inevitable, but the story unfolding now runs much deeper than a simple character shift.

This isn’t just about returning to WWE and “finishing the story” anymore. The welcome home tour is over now, and the story needs to continue. This is now about the wrestling world turning on Cody, piece by piece, both on-screen and in the stands. But it’s still all about Cody Rhodes.

Some fans are questioning if Cody’s success has bred resentment. Is it because he was being handed opportunities as QB1 since his WWE return? Or is it that WWE keeps inserting him into main event scenes when fans are clamoring for fresh faces?

Cody is portrayed as a hero, but the narrative could subtly be painting him as a villain. Especially after the March 6th episode of SmackDown, where Cody Rhodes won back the Undisputed WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre. He essentially stole the WrestleMania match that many fans felt McIntyre deserved.

The more Cody succeeds, the more the story seems to pivot against him.

Randy Orton Turns on Cody Rhodes

The latest shocker came on the March 13th edition of SmackDown. After a tense contract signing, Randy Orton delivered a brutal assault on Cody Rhodes, leaving him bloodied in the ring.

Orton’s heel turn was sudden but devastatingly effective, reinforcing the idea that Cody isn’t just facing external challenges. There are no friends in the ring, especially with championships and legacy on the line. The pressure comes from everywhere, and no one can be trusted.

This raises the stakes for WrestleMania 42 and beyond. Cody’s storyline now revolves around trust, betrayal, and the cost of being the top dog in WWE. And fans are watching closely. Is Cody a victim of envy, or is WWE positioning him as the ultimate heel disguised as a good guy?

Cody Rhodes may be the central figure around whom the chaos unfolds. But as the narrative develops, one thing is clear. Rhodes’ presence continues to shape the main event landscape, and with every twist, the line between hero and villain becomes blurrier.
