A review of Tyron Woodley’s track featuring Wiz Khalifa
The beat is a banger, that’s evident in the first few seconds of the UFC welterweight champion’s debut track.
Woodley starts off, “I’ll Beat Yo Ass” with some simple lyrics that would get anyone hype for their gym workout or spar session. Knowing this is Woodley rapping on his own track gets me even more hype, if I’m honest.
Woodley raps that he’ll beat “yo ass” in real life and on TV, adding that when he’s in the ring he is “G-O-D.”
Wiz Khalifa hops on the second verse and brings the song to life. Khalifa, who has been an advocate for training MMA, flows on the track adding some bars. It’s arguable, but Khalifa is, “more lit than you” and saves the song from being a flop. When the track was released it was an immediate hit amongst the MMA community; Mike Perry even rapped his own verse over the beat on his Instagram account.
The chorus is simple, catchy, and easy to remember.
Oh, and I definitely played it a few times on repeat bobbing my head, while shadow boxing.
Woodley recently announced to Ariel Helwani that his album will be released on March 4, so it will be interesting to hear the full project once it’s public. I would expect the beats and theme to be similar to his debut track.
Regardless, I’ll be on the watch for any promo on the album as the date approaches.
Keep grindin’, TWOOODLEY!
