Bushiroad opens door for future women’s division in NJPW
As first reported by Tokyo Sports, Kix Road, a subsidiary of Bushiroad (NJPW parent company), has purchased the Japanese women’s promotion STARDOM.
This news does not mean NJPW will include women on their shows right now, but instead they are being run separately. However, with this news of NJPW and STARDOM being part of the same parent company, it opens the door for the possibility of NJPW finally having women on their shows.
NJPW having a women’s division has been a controversial topic that has cause debate between fans. Japan has the tradition of men and women having separate promotions (excluding DDT), and if NJPW were to add women to their shows, it would take time to make this change happen.
The addition of a women’s division would be an interesting idea NJPW, and their parent company Bushiroad should consider it for the improvement and evolution of the promotion. DDT has shown in the last couple of years that women and men can be part of the same company and be successful.
Break The Mold
NJPW could benefit with the idea of finally having a women’s division and could break the mold of their format for shows. It would allow also for new viewers all over the world to connect with the product with these talented women.
The Joshi promotion will finally expand and gain more attention in Japan, but if things go in the right direction, we will see women wrestling for the NJPW banner in no time.
STARDOM is with no doubts the best promotion in terms of women’s wrestling and has stars on their roster like: Bea Priestley, Mayu Iwatani, Hana Kimura, and many more.
A window for a future women’s division in New Japan Pro Wrestling has opened. But, only time will tell if this will happen someday.
Who knows, one day women could be main eventing Wrestle Kingdom.
