A war of words is heating up between Claressa Shields and Laila Ali
24-year-old Claressa “T-Rex” Shields has been obliterating her competition in the boxing world and taking belts along with her. With her success, many people have been comparing her to Laila Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali.
Ali, 42, went undefeated throughout her career and retired in 2007. She held the WBC, WIBA, IWBF, and IBA female super middleweight titles. Along with the IWBF light heavyweight title, she racked up a record of 24-0 with 21 wins by knockout.
Shields thinks she is the greatest woman of all time (G.W.O.A.T.) in boxing. She would not have a problem beating Ali. At age 42, Ali has responded saying it would take seven or eight figures for her to come out of retirement. “She BeeStingin’” has commented that she believes she is the greatest of all time and would knock out Shields.
“T-Rex” boasts a record of 10-0 with two knockouts. She won gold medals in the women’s middleweight division at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Claressa Shields is currently ranked as the world’s best female light middleweight on BoxRec.
Today in an Instagram post, the reigning champ challenged Ali. “Yes I’ve heard loud and clear and my response is, if someone puts up the 15 million (5 for the loser and 10 Million for the winner). I will give her 6 months to year to make a fight with me at 168 pounds because she said she is around 200 right now. I don’t take threats lightly. She says she can knock me out and I say ‘I’ll leave the fight untouched and undefeated!’ Let’s make it happen! I’m the GWOAT AND NOT SCARED OF A SOUL!”
