The Scrap Now Covers Boxing

The Scrap is ringing in the New Year with a bang. Not only does our site have a fresh new design, but we’re also extending the coverage to the squared circle. And, not the wrestling ring of course, but the “sweet” science.

History of the “Sweet Science”

The history of boxing can be traced as far back as time has begun. The earliest recollection dates back to 3000BC during ancient Greek Olympic games. While it wasn’t the safest sport back then, it still showcased two athletes facing each other for some sort of prize.

Fast forward to 1904 and the sport was included in the current Olympic games that we know and love today. Furthermore, in 2012 the games advanced past only men and added the inclusion of women to be able to fight for their country.

Boxing 101

Additionally,  it’s one of the biggest sports on the planet. With over 34 weight classes, fighter’s do not have to struggle with massive weight cuts. Unlike mixed martial arts, boxing also has 4 governing bodies.

  • WBO (World Boxing Organization)
  • WBC (World Boxing Council)
  • WBA (World Boxing Association)
  • IBF (International Boxing Federation)

Each one of these sanctioning bodies has its own champions in each weight class. For a fighter, the goal is to capture them all and unify these belts to be considered the best in the entire world in their weight class.

Commitment to Excellent Coverage

Two athletes punching each other has always been and will continue to be one of the biggest spectacles on Earth. Whether it’s a heavyweight title unification bout, or a welterweight showdown between two contenders, the PPV numbers will always go through the roof. Simply put,  people will always love to see others get knocked out.

And now, if fans ever miss any of the action, The Scrap has you covered. Welcome to The Scrap: Boxing.
