Claressa Shields vs. Marie-Eve Dicaire set to headline all-women’s PPV
Four belts will be on the line when Claressa Shields (10-0, 2 KOS) battles Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-0) at Flint Michigan’s Dort Financial Center in the main event of an all-female pay-per-view boxing showcase that promoters are callling “Superwomen”.
The winner will be crowned the undisputed super welterweight champion. The fight will take place on March 5 in Shield’s hometown and will coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Shields, 25, last fought in January 2020, when she beat Ivana Habazin (20-4, 7 KOS) by unanimous decision to become the fastest fighter ever to win titles in three weight divisions. She claimed the WBC and WBO 154-pound world championships.
34-year-old Dicaire from Saint-Eustache, Quebec, Canada, won the IBF Super Welterweight World Championship in December 2018 when she beat Uruguay’s Chris Namus (25-6, 8 KOS) at the Quebec City Videotron Center. Dicaire’s last fight, in November 2019, was her third title defense. She beat Venezuelan Ogleidis Suarez (30-4, 14 KOS) by unanimous decision. Dicaire has never fought outside of her home province of Quebec.
In its 99-year history, this will be the first time the WBA has awarded a Super Champion belt to a female boxer. Other fighters currently on the card include heavyweight Danielle Perkins, light heavyweight Nadia Meknouzi and super welterweight Raquel Miller.
Presented by Salita Promotions in association with Groupe Yvon Michel, the pay-per-view telecast will be available InDemand to all major cable, satellite and telco outlets and livestreamed by FITE TV through the www.FITE.tv portal.
