AJ Styles’ WWE Future: Could The Phenomenal One Join AEW?

Read Time:1 Minute, 44 Second

Free agency is always fun to discuss in the world of pro wrestling. Not long ago, we looked at the future of Chris Jericho and the possibility of a WWE return. Now, the next big free agent conversation is about AJ Styles, whose future remains uncertain.

It’s important to note that AJ Styles’ contract with WWE runs until February 2026, shortly after the Royal Rumble. As the months go by, speculation about his next move will only intensify.

AEW has become the popular favorite to land Styles, though many have long viewed him as a potential WWE lifer, even taking on a backstage role when he retires. That uncertainty changes the entire conversation about his future.

Could AJ Styles Really Leave WWE?

Styles is an all-time great, and the idea of WWE letting such a major name walk away feels strange. After all, the company has already regretted letting AEW pick up stars like Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Mercedes Moné.

Rumors of Styles jumping ship to AEW have only grown louder, fueled in part by his son’s Instagram comments criticizing Paul Levesque’s booking.

That said, there is always some hesitation when former WWE talent moves to AEW. Names like Malakai Black, Miro, and especially CM Punk didn’t have smooth runs, leaving fans skeptical.

On the flip side, Ricochet, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, and Mercedes Moné managed to win over the AEW audience and became fan favorites. If Styles makes the leap, he could easily fit into that second group.

The Likely Path Forward

There’s still plenty of time before Styles’ contract runs out, and age will be a factor in whatever decision he makes. AEW is known as a workers’ promotion, and while Styles could deliver some incredible matches there, he’s also closer to the end of his career.

The most likely scenario is that Styles finishes his run with WWE, perhaps transitioning into a new role behind the scenes.

It may simply be too late in his career for AJ Styles to make such a massive move.
