Blake Monroe & The Cost of a WrestleMania Dream
Most wrestlers dream of working for WWE, with hopes of performing at WrestleMania and creating that career-defining “WrestleMania Moment“. But every dream has a price, and Mariah May, now known as Blake Monroe, is learning that firsthand.
Blake Monroe was on top of the world when she signed with WWE. She had just finished the hottest feud of the year with Toni Storm, culminating in an all-time classic match. The wrestling world paused, eager to see what was next. So, when WWE announced that Monroe would not debut on the main roster but instead in NXT, it shocked everyone.
A Rocky NXT Run
Monroe’s NXT run so far has been underwhelming. While it’s not entirely her fault, Shawn Michaels’ booking has done her no favors. Even her feud with Jordynne Grace, which had the potential to be a standout program, failed to reach the level many expected.
Fans are still waiting to see Monroe fully showcase her abilities in the ring. With the year already half over, the momentum she carried into WWE has slowed, leaving questions about why the company chose not to capitalize on it sooner.
Many fans recall Toni Storm’s chilling sit-down promo before their final clash, which now feels eerily prophetic:
“You do not deserve the dignity of death. I sentence you to a lifetime of mediocrity. Your life will continue. You career will continue. And it’ll be good — but never great. People will like you, but never love you. Because the star that you are will not compare to the monster that you’ve become. So you will dwindle, be replaced, and be forgotten. Then one day, many years from now, someone will ask, ‘whatever happened to Mariah May?’ She found out what happens, when you try to kill a god.”
What Comes Next?
Should fans worry about Monroe’s WWE future? In short, no. She’s the total package, and WWE is the right platform for her to thrive. Monroe is not even a full year into her run. While Storm’s words feel uncomfortably close to reality, it is far too early to write her off.
Dreams come with a cost, sometimes positive and sometimes painful. For Blake Monroe, the story of her WWE journey is only beginning.
