Daniel Spitz doesn’t believe in ring rust, ready for UFC return in Boston
Daniel Spitz is preparing for his first UFC fight since June 2018.
After needing some time off to deal with “personal stuff,” Spitz feels the layoff was good for him. It allowed him to reset his brain since he had two injuries on the same arm back-to-back.
Spitz broke his arm early in his last fight. And being forced to take time off to heal feels much longer for those injured than it does for fight fans watching. “You’re always second guessing yourself,” admitted Spitz. “To get finished on that scale, it’s a lot to deal with.”
In a much better place physically and mentally, Daniel is ready to get back in the Octagon on October 18 at UFC Boston. There, he will take on Tanner Poser. A non-believer in “ring rust” after being away for a long period of time, Spitz hopes to channel is inner Dominick Cruz and get his hand raised come fight night.
A Fan First
Although not fully away from the sport during his time away, Spitz was “fixing the little things that were taxing”. But let it be known, he hasn’t missed a UFC fight since taking time off.
He also still has his fan-girl moments when attending UFC cards.
On his Instagram, you’ll find the time where he “fan-girled the f*ck out” after meeting Israel Adesanya.
“It’s hard to act professional,” said Spitz. “I grew up a fan before I ever put gloves on.”
After UFC 34, Daniel was hooked. Fast forward time, now he’s fighting in the UFC heavyweight division very early in his career. “I’m still a baby in this sport,” said Spitz. “I definitely think I’m at the caliber of those guys. I’m still very green.”
First Time in Boston
“Daddy Long Legs” will take on Tanner Boser inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. He is aware that his opponent doesn’t have many finishes on his record. He’s also knows that, “He does a lot of switch stances,” but feels it only “works if you’re very athletic.”
Confident in his ability to finish fights, Daniel is ready to make a statement in the UFC heavyweight division that keeps on growing. He’s also excited that his boss, Dana White, will likely be in attendance.
“Seeing someone that is not going in there to finish a fight kind of ramps me up because that’s not how I fight.”
After watching a bit of film on Boser, Spitz’s goal is, “to go out there and put pace” on Tanner. He’s expecting a first or second round finish next month, but overall wants to come out healthy in hopes to make up for loss time.
