Exploring potential storylines and opponents for Boss N’ Hug Connection

Read Time:5 Minute, 11 Second

At the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View, we crowned the inaugural winners of the long rumoured Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Now that we have established who the champions are, and we have established that the titles are cross-brand (NXT included), we can talk about the potential next challengers. The Women’s Tag Division is kind of thin, even across all three brands, however I was able to find three tag teams that I believe should challenge for the titles next.

This list has a combination of SmackDown superstars, NXT superstars, and two legends. So, let’s break down my next potential storylines for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, The Boss N’ Hug Connection.

The IIconics

In preparation I was scratching my head trying to think about fun challengers for the Women’s Tag Team Championships that are currently held by Sasha and Bayley, since the division is kind of slim across Raw and SmackDown. However, there is one team on SmackDown that I would love to see have a shot at the Tag Titles, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. Now there’s too main reasons I chose Peyton and Billie, first of all I think as a whole they are criminally underrated. They are both extremely solid in the ring, and they’re personalities are fantastic. The promos leading up to this match would be extremely entertaining too. If Sasha threw in a bit of her heel persona, it would be a great opposite to the IIconics personality.

But also, the story would be fantastic because Peyton and Billie have been friends for something like 14 years, and Sasha and Bayley have been having issues since their NXT days. If I was writing this story I would have Billie and Peyton challenge for the titles, and then I would go the direction of, “we’ve been friends for 14 years, you two have been getting along for a few months.” Then you can have the tight friendship of Peyton and Billie sort of put doubt in the friendship between Sasha and Bayley. Leading up to the match, you can push the story of Bayley and Sasha being able to work together.

I think if done right it could be an extremely compelling story, and could do a lot for the characters of Billie and Peyton. I would love to see this story, the IIconics deserve the shot.

The Sky Pirates

This past week, Sasha and Bayley showed up at a NXT live event and had a segment with Io Shirai and Kairi Sane, who are known as The Sky Pirates. Now this storyline basically writes itself, Sasha and Bayley were at the top of the NXT Women’s division for a long time, both claiming the NXT Women’s Championship during their time on the black and yellow brand. When the tag titles were introduced it was said that the titles would be defended on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT so this match is entirely possible.

This would be a huge marquee match to do on a NXT Takeover, and would be an absolute killer match too. As for the story, it absolutely writes itself, Sasha and Bayley coming back to NXT and call out any two women to prove that they can still beat the best in the division. Then Kairi Sane and Io Shirai come out and claim that they are the best, and want a shot at the tag titles. Sasha and Bayley would obviously retain but I think the fans would go nuts for this match. Not to mention, Takeover’s matches always have lot’s of time to breathe and I think we would see the Sasha and Bayley that we used to see in NXT again.

This mini-storyline is a no-brainer to me, all four of these ladies are extremely talented. This match with 20-minutes on a Takeover card would blow the roof off the place.

Trish and Lita

I picked this for last because not only would I absolutely love to see it, but I also think it’s definitely happening. There have already been seeds planted for this match, like the last one I listed, the story writes itself. In the first Women’s Royal Rumble match Sasha and Trish had a confrontation so they can bring that back up and just in general it is the perfect attraction match for WrestleMania 35. In fact for a short run in 2003 Lita and Trish wrestled on TV as a tag team, and with them main-eventing a Raw with a women’s match for the first time, it would make sense that they would want to make history yet again. After that Women’s Rumble match, Trish said her and Sasha had great chemistry, and Sasha came out and said that she really wanted to wrestle her so I think this match makes sense for all parties.

I think the set-up is easy, after Sasha and Bayley beat Nia and Tamina at WWE Fastlane. I would have them come out and say we already beat the top 3 teams on Raw at Elimination Chamber so there’s nobody left for us to face. Then you have Trish and Lita come out and say, “there’s one more team,” and you set up the match for WrestleMania. I think WrestleMania is largely an attraction PPV and this is the perfect match to put on the biggest show of the year: Old School vs New School.

Obviously Sasha and Bayley are fantastic wrestlers, and Lita and Trish have proven that they can still go. I honestly can’t think of a big tag team for Sasha and Bayley to face at WrestleMania 35, so I think this is the perfect solution. No doubt it would also be a dream come true for Sasha and Bayley who grew up watching Trish and Lita. The Boss ‘N Hug Connection made history main eventing the first network special, Lita and Trish made history being the first Women to main event Raw.

This is the perfect match and storyline for the reign of Sasha and Bayley going into Mania, and I think it’s very possible.
