Lupita Godinez vs. Sarah Alpar cancelled due to visa issue

The recently scheduled fight between Canada’s Lupita Godinez (5-1) and Sarah Alpar (9-5) at UFC Vegas 27 is off due to a visa stamp issue, despite Godinez already making her debut for the organization.

“Loopy” was set to step in on short notice on May 22 after Alpar’s original opponent, Stephanie Egger, was forced to withdraw from the bout for undisclosed reasons. Godinez was willing to fight “Too Sweet” at bantamweight; two weight classes higher than her official division.

According to her coach Ken Tran, Godinez has her main visa but didn’t have time to get the specific stamp needed to travel for this fight.

The Canadian strawweight signed with the UFC in April for a short notice fight at UFC Vegas 24 against Jessica Penne (13-5). Penne came out with split decision after a back and forth battle. “Hopefully next one I will be able to fight in my own weight class with notice,” Godinez said when she spoke with The Scrap.

As it currently stands, the UFC is currently looking for a replacement fight for Alpar.
