Top three feuds to make for CM Punk in AEW

Read Time:1 Minute, 53 Second

This weeks AEW Rampage takes place in a town that has left its mark on the wrestling landscape forever. On Friday, if all the stars align, Chicago will make history yet again. We have waited and speculated for seven years and it appears the return of CM Punk may finally be upon us.

This historic return begs the question, who should Punk feud with first?

Darby Allin

I’ve put Darby Allin first because it is the one that has been teased and is the one that makes the most sense. The CM Punk rumors began to pick up on the July 29th episode of Dynamite. In a backstage promo, Darby Allin referenced the “best in the world” and essentially called CM Punk out. This happened on the same episode where the Chicago show was announced.

The Darby feud makes sense because they have a lot of similarities. The character of Darby Allin seems like the CM Punk character just turned up. They both have the same drug-free tattoo, I mean come on. The story of Punk seeing himself in Darby and the eventual match makes this one the top option.

Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega vs. CM Punk is one of those matches that just doesn’t even seem possible. If I was to make a list of dream matches this one would top it. If Punk does make his return on Friday, there would be a lot of questions about ring rust. Having a barn burner main event against Omega would no doubt silence those concerns.

Seeing how Punk matches up with Omega’s style would make for an all-time great match. Not to mention the character work between the two would be tremendous.

MJF

MJF is on this list for one reason and one reason only – the promo battles. While CM Punk was in WWE, he was easily the best talker in the company. In fact, he was so good that people compared him to Stone Cold Steve Austin. His pipe bomb promo single handedly revitalized the wrestling business, and brought back many lapsed fans.

Combine this with the promo ability of MJF and you have gold. There is so much material for MJF to work with, and we all know CM Punk can match MJF.
