Valentina Shevchenko set to defend title against Liz Carmouche in Uruguay
UFC women’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, is set to defend her title against top division contender Liz Carmouche. The bout has been scheduled for the main event of UFC Montevideo on August 10.
Besides current double champ Amanda Nunes, Liz Carmouche is the only other woman to have defeated Shevchenko in MMA. The two first fought at a regional MMA event in 2010, where Carmouche defeated Shevchenko via second-round TKO.
Since then, Shevchenko has gone 10-2 in her next 12 fights and managed to capture UFC flyweight gold. Shevchenko now holds a professional record of 17-3, with 5 KOs, and 7 submissions.
Carmouche has gone 8-6 in the last 14 bouts, following her first fight with the flyweight champion. She is currently riding a 2-fight win streak, including wins over Jennifer Maia and Lucie Pudilova. She also holds big wins over some of the UFC’s top female fighters, such as current strawweight champion Jessica Andrade and top division contender, Katlyn Chookagian.
