VIDEO: Undefeated Norbert Novenyi Jr. ‘annoyed’ with Bellator 247 win
Norbert Novenyi Jr. kept his undefeated record intact after defeating Laïd Zerhouni at Bellator 247, but the 21-year-old wasn’t satisfied with his performance.
” I was a bit too relaxed in there,” Novenyi Jr. told The Scrap. “The first 15 seconds, the guy dropped me because I was just too relaxed. I didn’t have the urgency I (wanted). I made a silly mistake, which me and my coach drilled like we knew exactly what he was going to do. Which was why I was so annoyed with my performance because we knew what was going to happen.”
Novenyi Jr. (4-0) picked up his third straight win under the Bellator banner and has only gone the distance once in his short career. While “Magic” wants to ride the momentum of his last win and get another fight booked soon, Novenyi Jr. thinks it’s likely he won’t fight again until next year.
“I’m not sure if they are doing anymore Europe shows and my visa is actually set to expire, so I might have to sort that out,” Novenyi Jr said. “Hopefully I could get another fight by the end of the year or early next year. Like my last fight was a year ago. I had to take a year off obviously, because of COVID. It didn’t help. I want to fight more regularly but my goal is just to progress and just become a better fighter. Even if I’m not fighting, it’s more time I spent in the gym getting better.”
The London Shootfighters product doesn’t have a preference in his next opponent and believes in order to become a world champion, he’ll need to fight whoever is in front of him anyways.
“At the moment, I just want to improve,” Novenyi Jr explained. “I’ll take whatever Bellator gives me. I’ve learned that in order to become a world champion, I”m going to have to beat everyone. So I’m not planning on anything else.”
