Wednesday Night Wars: AEW Dynamite Week 23 Review

Read Time:3 Minute, 27 Second

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite took place at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The crowd, in a similar fashion to other AEW crowds, was great. It was very promo heavy and less focused on in-ring action.

Jon Moxley & Chris Jericho Promo Exchange

To change the routine of starting with action, Dynamite started the episode with a great promo exchange between Chris Jericho and the new AEW Champion, Jon Moxley.

During this segment, Chris Jericho was fantastic as a heel and teased the possibility of him no showing on Dynamite, if he and Sammy Guevara were to lose in the main event.

SCU & Colt Cabana def. The Dark Order

This was Colt Cabana’s Dynamite debut. This bout was really fun and had a lot of great tag team work from both teams. Christopher Daniels looked impressive.

After the match, people expected the debut of “The Exalted One” but this did not happen. Once the bout ended, Evil Uno made a promo saying that “The Exalted One” would not be happy with this result.

Big Swole def. Leva Bates w/ Peter Avalon

This bout was a squash, designed to make Big Swole look good and it did a good job with that. Britt Baker was in the commentary booth during this match and once again she did a great job there.

This was the shortest match of the night. It appears Big Swole could be Nyla Rose next Challenger. for the AEW Women’s Championship.

Cody Promo

Cody made a good promo talking about his loss to MJF at Revolution when Jake “The Snake” Roberts appeared and confronted Cody. Roberts told Cody about his client and that he has his eyes on him.

Jake Roberts’s promo was fantastic and people can’t wait to see the debut of his client.

PAC def. Chuck Taylor w/ Trent Baretta & Orange Cassidy

This was a fun match between PAC and Chuck Taylor. Nothing out of this world happened during this match. PAC and Trent Baretta confronted each other and it appears both will have a singles match soon.

In a similar fashion to what happened in Revolution, The Lucha Bros appeared and attacked The Best Friends. After the attacked, PAC announced the formation of a new faction between him and the Lucha Bros named Death Triangle.

Jake Hager w/ Santana & Ortiz def. QT Marshall w/ Dustin Rhodes

A very simple match and it served the purpose of making Hager look impressive.

After this match ended, The Inner Circle members attacked Dustin and Marshall until Cody and Matt Jackson made the save. But, they were overwhelmed by the power of The Inner Circle. Adam Page came out and cleared the ring from the members of the Inner circle. After this, Page drank beer and flipped off Matt Jackson and left.

Pre-taped MJF Promo

Once again MJF delivered a great promo. MJF in this promo mentioned his victory over Cody at Revolution and talked about him being the next challenger for Jon Moxley.

The best part of this promo was when MJF mentioned Cody’s neck tattoo.

Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara w/ Santana, Ortiz & Hager def. Darby Allin & Jon Moxley

Before the match could start, Santana, Ortiz and Hager wearing masks attacked Moxley and left him incapacitated to wrestle in this match. This match was booked to make Darby look like a star and it succeed.

This bout was basically 5 vs.1 and Darby Allin gave an incredible performance. But this was not enough to combat the numbers of the Inner Circle. After the match ended, Jon Moxley came out to get payback from Jericho and members of the Inner Circle, however in a similar fashion to Allin, the numbers were too much and he ended receiving a triple power bomb from Santana, Ortiz and Hager.

Rating

This was a good episode of AEW Dynamite, but it was not one of their best, like we saw in previous weeks. The match of the night was the main event between Allin and The Inner Circle.

Jake Roberts promo was fantastic. The women’s division once again didn’t do much.

Rating: B+
