Wednesday Night Wars: WWE NXT Week 11 Review

Read Time:2 Minute, 42 Second

The ratings for this week’s edition of NXT and AEW Dynamite were dead even, 778,000. However, which was the better show?

Let’s find out!

Angel Garza vs. Lio Rush

NXT kicked off with a match that flew under my radar. I am a big fan of Lio Rush, but wasn’t sure how good Angel Garza was. I got my answer on Wednesday, Garza is really freaking good.

This match was amazing from start to finish, that’s all I can say. Probably the best match of the modern day Cruiserweight division. High-flying, story telling, back and forth, just a fun match from start to finish. Garza would make Rush tap out, and we have our first Mexican NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

I’m amazed this opened the show and I think it should’ve been higher on the card. Seriously go out of your way to watch this match. Garza also proposed to his girlfriend after the match, which was a nice moment. Loved this match, and I think WWE has found their next Hispanic star. Angel Garza, remember the name.

Dakota Kai

I just want to talk briefly about Dakota Kai’s heel turn. When Dakota turned heel at War Games, I wasn’t sure about it. She seems like a babyface. But boy have I eaten my words, she is actually better as a heel. She is intense, sinister, and she plays her character absolutely perfectly.

She faced Mia Yim tonight and got the win after hitting Mia’s head off the exposed turnbuckle. I love that Dakota is still carrying around Tegan’s knee brace too, amazing touch.

That Main Event

Now let’s talk about the main event, not sure if this or Rush vs. Garza was match of the night so I’ll talk about both. This was just fantastic from bell-to-bell. I don’t know what it is about NXT, but they are so good at big matches, especially triple threats.

My man Keith Lee continued to shine in this match. He steals whatever camera time he gets. If you have not watched this, go give it a look. This was of course a triple threat between Ciampa, Lee, and Balor to determine Adam Cole’s #1 Contender. To my surprise (and delight) Finn Balor got a sneaky win.

I think Balor vs. Cole is a feud that they could stretch out maybe even to Mania. I do think Finn is the right choice because he is easily the hottest thing on NXT right now! He will win the NXT Championship, just not sure when.

Rating

This show had a lot of filler, and things I was not interested in. When you have Jaxson Ryker in a singles match you know it’s a slow week. The show was obviously saved by the three topics I discussed, but without those, this would not have been good week for WWE.

I am all for talent getting TV time, but there was too many matches that seemed like time killers.
