Card Preview & Predictions for Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII is shaping up to be a must-watch event. Below, we break down each matchup, provide our predictions, and highlight the key storylines ahead of the big night:

John Cena vs. Gunther

I’ve been going back and forth on this match. Even as I type this, I don’t want it to be real. But the story they’re telling is that nice guys don’t always finish last. Not when Gunther is the final boss. Gunther gives so many people their best matches in WWE, so him being Cena’s last opponent feels fitting. He’s as old school and professional wrestling as it gets.

This match is going to be incredible, emotional, and something I’m truly not ready for. But something tells me Gunther is going to get put over in the most epic way possible, and his stock will blow through the roof heading into 2026 as the most hated man in WWE.

Bayley vs. Sol Ruca

This is going to be an incredible match. But, all signs point to Bayley putting Sol Ruca over, especially based on how she’s been treated and left out of storylines lately. While Sol has appeared on the main roster here and there, this feels like her true introduction.

Anyone who has followed NXT knows she’s destined to be a massive star in WWE. When we look back, this is going to be the night that officially puts her on the map. I’m going with Sol!

World Tag Team Championships: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee (c) vs. Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater

I think this night is all about making a statement. Because of that, I could absolutely see Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater winning the World Tag Team Championships. It would be a huge surprise, especially with Leon being on TNA’s roster. If the entire show is centered around John Cena and spotlighting the future of the industry, why not go all-in?

That said, based on how I feel about the main event, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee are still the most likely to retain. Either way, this has all the ingredients to be a Match of the Year contender.

Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi

I’d be shocked if they let Oba Femi beat the poster boy. But Cody Rhodes is absolutely getting his ass kicked at points in this match.

Oba is finally going to introduce himself to the main roster in a way no one else has been able to. While he doesn’t really do it for me, WWE does need some big, scary guys. So, it will be nice to see him finally move on from NXT in 2026. Still, there’s no way Cody is losing this one!
