2025 ESPY Fighter of the Year: Merab Dvalishvili
During the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Teixeira, it was announced that Merab Dvalishvili was named the 2025 ESPY Fighter of the Year, an accolade that recognizes excellence in MMA from July 1, 2024, to June 20, 2025.
Merab stood tall among a stacked field of nominees, which included Kayla Harrison, Islam Makhachev, and Dricus du Plessis. And it’s easy to see why.

Dvalishvili has put together one of the most impressive title runs in recent UFC history. He began by defeating bantamweight superstar Sean O’Malley to capture the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Merab showcased relentless pressure and grappling that completely overwhelmed the former champ at Noche UFC.
Not content with just winning the belt, Merab accepted a high-stakes title defense against the undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov. Not only did he hand Umar his first professional loss, but he did so in dominant fashion. Merab earned a unanimous decision and Fight of the Night honors in the process.
He followed up that performance with a rematch against O’Malley, closing the chapter in decisive fashion. This time, Dvalishvili submitted “Sugar” Sean in the third round with a rare North-South Choke. He proved yet again that he’s not just a cardio machine, but a constantly evolving and dangerous champion.
Now riding high as the reigning bantamweight king, Dvalishvili has firmly cemented his place among the sport’s elite. With unmatched pace, ever-improving skill, and an unbreakable will, Merab continues to look unbeatable every time he steps into the Octagon.
Congratulations to the 2025 ESPY Fighter of the Year, Merab Dvalishvili!
