The End of CM Punk & AEW

The moment CM Punk joined AEW, it felt like a match made in heaven considering multiple factors back then. But things over time change… On September 23rd, AEW announced that CM Punk was no longer part of AEW going forward. This decision came as a surprise, because many thought Punk was untouchable.
The All Out brawl between The Elite and CM Punk changed things, and it was pretty much the beginning of the end of CM Punk’s AEW run. The relationship between Punk and the AEW fanbase changed after the events of All Out too, and many fans took the side of The Elite. The figure of Punk became somewhat divisive from both fans and wrestlers inside the company. Other fans took Punk’s side, leading to the first big divide within the AEW fanbase.
Punk’s short run in AEW gave us all the facets the man has to offer. The charmer, the a**hole, the generous advice giver, and the vindictive prick. That’s CM Punk, for better and worse. The image of Punk did itself no favors after what happened at All In recently with Jack Perry, but that was the final straw. Firing him was difficult decision, but Tony Khan had to make it.
At the end of the day, Punk was not worth all the trouble he was making for AEW and that’s probably what’s best for both sides. AEW can finally move forward and Punk can finally do his thing. On paper, both were meant to be. But like some relationships, this one just wasn’t…
The future of CM Punk is uncertain right now. However, this could be the final time we see him inside a squared circle. For AEW, this is an opportunity to move forward and let all those controversies behind, so they can grow as a promotion.
