The Future of Ricochet: His WWE Run & A Future in AEW
With the shocking news of Ricochet wanting to leave WWE over the weekend, speculation regarding his future has been one of the main topics in pro wrestling social media. It will be even louder as fans believe he was officially written off of WWE TV during this past episode of Monday Night Raw.
Before Ricochet joined WWE, he was considered one of the next big stars alongside Will Ospreay. Almost a decade later, and Ospreay was able to transform himself into one of the best wrestlers in the world, while Ricochet never got to that next level many expected him to get to in WWE.
This news is not shocking, to an extent. Ricochet’s booking in WWE has been disappointing over the last few years. Before he announced his intention of leaving, he became a champion on WWE’s new show streaming exclusively on X, WWE Speed. It’s a show that many felt was made for wrestlers the company didn’t have long term plans for. 6 years later, and his run with WWE has been a bit disappointing. Some fans even believe he should’ve asked for his release a few year ago…
Will He Be All Elite?
Let’s address the elephant in the room. It’s almost certain that AEW and Tony Khan will make a good offer for Ricochet, and going to AEW is the right move for Ricochet. While going to AEW feels like the obvious move, he needs a run in the Indies again, first. Ricochet needs to shake the WWE in him off, and to show up on TV in the future with renewed energy.
Right now, we can only sit, wait and contemplate his next steps. But, sooner or later, he will sign with AEW. It seems almost inevitable, and a program with Will Ospreay might be exactly what he needs.
