Is Chris Jericho WWE-Bound?
News of free agency in pro wrestling is always fun to discuss, and one of the most intriguing stories developing right now is the future of Chris Jericho.
Jericho was one of the key figures in establishing AEW early on, serving as both a star attraction and a locker room leader for Tony Khan’s promotion. But his time in AEW appears to be nearing its end, and a return to WWE feels closer than ever.
Jericho has accomplished nearly everything possible in AEW. Many fans believe he needs a new environment, and WWE seems like the natural next step. It offers fresh matchups, renewed rivalries, and a lucrative deal.
His complicated relationship with Paul “Triple H” Levesque has spanned decades. But, they have put business first before, and they likely will again.
Why a WWE Return Makes Sense
For AEW, losing Jericho would be a major blow given his contributions to the company’s early success. Regardless of what happens, he will go down as one of AEW’s most important figures. It remains unclear whether he wants to stay, or if Tony Khan has extended an offer for him to re-sign.
Still, all signs point to a WWE return. The Royal Rumble stands out as the perfect stage for Jericho’s comeback and a possible final run with the company. WWE will likely pursue him aggressively, both to bolster their own roster and to hurt AEW, which has become a pattern in recent years. Jericho could be the biggest AEW defection since Cody Rhodes.
Could Chris Jericho stay in AEW? Possibly. But right now, a WWE return seems far more likely. And with retirement eventually on the horizon, where Jericho wants to end his in-ring career and what kind of backstage role he might want afterward, could ultimately decide where he signs next.
