Gilbert Burns reveals list of hopeful next foes — starting with Colby Covington

Read Time:1 Minute, 13 Second

As Gilbert Burns was preparing for the biggest fight of his career, he experienced a fight week unlike any other. With the Covid-19 pandemic making a global push — along with almost all major sporting events and leagues making the hard decision to close its doors — there was a chance Burns’ co-main event bout with Demian Maia may not have happened.

In the end, the event moved forward and “Durinho” delivered a highlight reel that echoed throughout the empty Ginásio Nilson Nelson.

With a widely respected multi-time world title challenger on his resume, Burns is ready for another step up in competition.

Following his big win on Saturday, Burns checked in with The Scrap to discuss the chaotic fight week and wondering whether the fight would actually happen with the Covid-19 pandemic, fighting in an empty arena and why it made him more nervous, when he became confident that it was his fight, the finishing sequence, how Logan Storley was a huge help getting him ready for the fight, his callout of Colby Covington, how close he was to getting the fight with Tyron Woodley for this weekend before the UFC London event was officially cancelled, his list of other hopeful foes for his return, what his next few weeks will look like, and more.

Check out the full interview with Gilbert Burns following his first-round TKO win over Demian Maia at UFC Brasilia in the video below.
