Jared Revel on vacant middleweight title fight vs. Josh Silveira at LFA 119

Read Time:4 Minute, 36 Second

Jared Revel tests skills with Josh Silveira for the vacant LFA middleweight championship at LFA 119 on Friday, December 3rd. The event goes down at the Arizona Federal Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, and broadcasts live on UFC Fight Pass.

I spoke with Revel ahead of this title bid and excerpts from our chat are below.

Recent efforts working in Arizona at Fight Ready

“Last May, I had the same agent as Eryk Anders. They kind of linked us up, I went down for his last fight. Helped him prepare, he was fighting Darren Stewart. So I went down there for about three-four weeks. Kind of just got acclimated and was training with him. Helping him prepare for his fight. Right. So just obviously, got connections down there. And then he had another fight booked, I think it was for the 13th of November.”

Jared Revel continued, “Just due to COVID some issues happened but I was down there. Then same time, el Capitan, he had a call from Joe Silva. That’s how I got the fight for the LFA opportunity. So I’ve just been down there. I just came home kind of for the last couple of weeks with my coaches. Just to make sure that I’ve got everything nailed down and ready to rock.”

Honing skills both mentally and physically with Eryk Anders and a myriad of others

“Fight Ready is a pretty unique place. The coaches are amazing. You’ve got Eddie Cha, you’ve got Santino (Defranco), and you’ve got el Capitan. It’s a who’s who list. Even if you’re not training with them, but just in the room. All the guys, top fighters, tons of Bellator and UFC guys. Everybody’s there for one common goal. Obviously, it’s the home of Cejudo. You’ve just got tons of people coming in and being part of it. Wheili’s camp was there. So the energy is just different. So it’s nice.”

Thoughts on if winning the LFA belt on UFC Fight Pass provides a ticket to the UFC

“Yeah, for sure. You know, I think the last couple of years I’ve kind of been right there. And definitely my last fight, I think was a huge fight for me. I think the knock on the door and just kind of waiting for that opportunity. Whether or not it’s just due to logistics and just the whole COVID happening. No fights happening in Canada. Stuff like that is a little harder for that. But I think I’m right there. And this gives me another stepping stone. Another opportunity.”

Overall thoughts on the tape study efforts for LFA 119 opponent Josh Silveira

“Usually the coaches are big on the video. The coaches usually do like me to watch a little bit too. Just to see what I can pick up. To see if I see the same things. But I don’t dive into watching too much. Like my coaches do a lot of it and kind of give me that game plan. And then I can execute from there. So usually how that works.”

Silveira winning the LFA light heavyweight title, trying to capture middleweight gold now and if gas tank issues might pop up for him

“Sure, some people would say that. The coaches have mentioned but I don’t look at that. I think he’s probably naturally a 185er. That’s where he’d want to fight if he’s going to UFC. So I don’t look at any of that. I don’t think that’s going to change anything. I think he’s been a wrestler. So he understands the weight cuts, all that stuff. So I’m not too hung up on anything like that. I’m just expecting the best version of him. That kind of gets me excited. That I get to fight somebody that’s of a high caliber. Undefeated, just kind of brings the level of competitiveness up for me and makes it exciting.”

Personal Journey

Reaching a milestone of being a decade clean and how much that meant

“Oh, that’s been a huge, huge part of my life. Just moving forward. The things, all the successes that have come with it. It was a big moment for me for sure. Just to realize how time has flown by. All the people that have been super supportive throughout my journey. For me to do what I love to do, giving everything I’ve got is just something simple. To give back everything I’ve got and show that I’m able to accomplish these goals for myself.”

“It just goes to show all the people that supported me. Invested a little bit of time in me, that’s the least I can do. Keep pushing forward being the best version of myself. So I think that’s one of my driving factors all the time. Is to the people that did always have my back. Show them that I’m not just giving it half-ass. I’m giving it everything I’ve got.”

Parting thoughts for Jared Revel

“Overall, I just thank everybody that I train with, all the coaches, everybody. All the people, all the fans. If you want to call them that or just people that support me. Family, friends, everything. I’d love to give a big shout-out to them. Everybody is a part of this. It’s not just myself going in there. I feel the army behind me. So that’s what’s up. Check out The Rebel going to the States, bringing home the LFA title.”
