Pro Wrestler of the Month: Johnny Gargano is finally NXT Champion

Read Time:1 Minute, 19 Second

There is a lot of wrestling that goes on every month, especially in the WWE with several weekly shows between cable TV and the WWE Network. However, there is one person (or team) every month that stands out above the rest. For the month of April, that man was the NXT Champion, Johnny Gargano.

Gargano has been a stand out in NXT for a long time, and I have always been a fan of him, but last month he just stood above everybody else. At the beginning of April, Gargano finally captured the NXT Championship in a MOTY contender against Adam Cole at TakeOver: New York.

You could argue that he kicked out too much in the match, but the amount of near falls aside his performance was absolutely legendary. While it wasn’t the conclusion to the Gargano vs Tomasso Ciampa saga that we wanted, Johnny finally won the most prestigious title on the black and yellow brand. How he reacted to the win was a genuine, feel-good moment. In the weeks after his Championship performance, he has had a couple very good promos, and one TakeOver-quality match against Roderick Strong.

Johnny Gargano has really come into his own last month as the top guy in NXT, and his journey has been an absolute joy to watch. From being told no at his first tryout, to winning the NXT Championship in a 5 star match, April belonged to Johnny Wrestling.
