American Gladiators Returns — And Pro Wrestling Takes Center Stage
The Arena is back. And this time, it’s bringing the squared circle with it.
After nearly two years of anticipation, American Gladiators is officially making its return, with Prime Video announcing a full-season rollout beginning April 17, 2026. The iconic competition series is long considered one of the earliest reality TV spectacles.
The reboot will debut its first three episodes on premiere day, followed by weekly drops on April 24 and May 1, culminating in a 10-episode global release across more than 240 countries.
But this isn’t just a reboot, it’s opening a forbidden door.
The Miz Leads a Wrestler-Heavy Charge
At the center of it all is Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, whose journey from reality TV on The Real World to WWE superstardom makes him the perfect bridge between entertainment and athletic competition. As host, Miz brings charisma, timing, and a deep understanding of spectacle, something American Gladiators has always thrived on.
And fittingly, he won’t be the only one with pro wrestling roots stepping into the spotlight.
Wrestlers Enter the Arena
This reboot features one of the most unique crossovers in recent memory. It blends the worlds of pro wrestling with the grit of physical competition:
- Jessie Godderz — Competing as Steel, Godderz brings an extensive résumé that includes championship success in TNA and OVW, a standout run on Big Brother, and recent appearances on House of Villains. His larger-than-life persona and insane physique feels tailor-made for the Gladiator format.
- Wardlow — Known as Fang in the Arena, the AEW powerhouse adds legitimate intimidation to the lineup. Wardlow’s explosive strength and presence could make him one of the most dominant Gladiators on the show.
- Kamille — Competing as Hurricane, the former NWA World Women’s Champion brings a mix of athleticism and physicality that’s already made her a standout in AEW.
- Eric Bugenhagen — Entering as The Bull, the former WWE 24/7 Champion is known for his raw power and unmatched energy. If personality wins crowds, Bungengagen may already be the fan favorite.
- Jessica Roden — As Supernova, the former OVW Women’s Champion rounds out a stacked group of wrestling talent ready to test themselves in a completely different arena.
Leveled-Up Chaos
The show stays true to its roots, bringing back legendary events like Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall. But it also evolves, introducing high-impact additions like The Ring and Collision, each designed to push competitors to their limits.
In every episode, amateur contenders step into the Arena to face off against 16 Gladiators in a test of strength, speed, and strategy. By the end, only one man and one woman will outlast the rest, walk away with $100,000, and earn the title of American Gladiator Champion.
Why This Crossover Matters
Pro wrestling has always blurred the line between sport and spectacle. American Gladiators never cared about the line to begin with. It just throws people into chaos and lets it play out, that’s why this works.
With Amazon MGM Studios backing it, a global stage on Prime Video, and a roster full of wrestlers who know how to perform under pressure, the show is positioning itself as more than nostalgia. It’s aiming to be must-watch television again.
And for wrestling fans? This might be the closest thing to a true crossover between WWE and AEW you’ll get.
